Blotter: Evicted Tenants Leave With Building Property, Man Steals Car Back After Getting It Fixed

Subcontractor Swipes Items From Giant's Shelves
On June 9 at approximately 5:46 a.m., Marple police responded to the Giant supermarket on Springfield Road for a shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival, police met with the loss prevention officer who stated that he observed a subcontractor remove things from the shelf and place it into a bag attached to the floor buffer the man was using then move the items into his lunch bag, according to the report. Upon reviewing the video surveillance camera, the total items taken valued to $89.53. The man was arrested and cited for retail theft.
$1,000 Stolen From Movie Theater
On June 9 at approximately 8:36 p.m., police responded to the AMC Marple 10 movie theaters in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center for a reported theft. Upon arrival, police spoke with the supervisor who reported that someone had stolen approximately $1,000 in various amount of bills from a bin that was stored under the cash register. According to the report, the supervisor stated that the money is later picked up by a supervisor or manager and taken to the office. The approximate time of theft was believed to be between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. In addition, the supervisor told police that they had found the bin outside on the sidewalk about 30 feet from the front doors. Police are further investigating this incident.
Former Hair Salon Tenant Evicted, Leaves With Building Property
On June 6 at approximately 2:21 p.m., police responded to Hair West after receiving a 911 hang-up call. Upon arrival, police spoke with the owners of the property in which they were informed that the sheriff’s department had served the tenant with an eviction notice. According to the report, when the owners of the property went to check on the business, they discovered the former tenant had removed many items belonging to the building owners, including the phone system, the built-in sound system, two black leather couches, at least six hair cutting chairs, a large wall mirror, a large decorative vase and a large wall painting. According to the report, the owners have a lease indicating that all items inside the property belong to them. Police are further investigating this incident.
Man Steals Back Car After Car Gets Fixed
On June 6 at approximately 2:44 p.m., police received a report of a theft from Pep Boys on Springfield Road. Upon arrival, police spoke with the assistant manager who told police that on May 24, a customer had his 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer towed in for service. The vehicle owner was contacted by phone when the work was authorized to be completed. The total value of work completed came to $647.34, according to the report. On June 2, the employees from Pep Boys discovered the vehicle missing from the parking lot. When they attempted to contact the owner with the phone number provided, the phone service was shut off. Police are further investigating this incident.
Woman Waiting For Bus Gets Purse Stolen
On June 4 at approximately 12:50 p.m., police responded to the Walmart in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Ceter for a reported theft. Upon arrival, police spoke to the loss prevention officer who told police that a woman had removed a gold purse from a shopping cart outside in front of the store. Police were unable to locate the woman in the store. The victim told police she was standing out front waiting for the bus when she realized someone had taken her purse from her shopping cart. According to the report, the gold purse was valued at approximately $10 which contained an Apple iPhone valued at approximately $400, $37, a driver’s license and a debit card. Police are further investigating this incident.
iPhone Stolen at Marshall's Store
On June 4 at approximately 6:09 a.m., police received a reported theft of an iPhone. The victim told police that the incident occurred at the Marshall’s store in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center sometime after 7:45 p.m. on June 2. When the victim tried calling the phone, a person picked up and then hung up, according to the report. Police are further investigating this incident.
Mysterious Name Shows Up On Energy Bill
On June 4 police responded to the MJC Group at 1999 S. Sproul Rd. for a reported theft. Upon arrival, police spoke to the building owner who told police he received paperwork that day that was mailed to tenant Broomall Pediatric Dentistry. The paperwork was from AP G&E Energy Solutions which was dated back to May 21, 2012. The contract listed MJC Group as the corporation name and Broomall Pediatric Dentistry as the name under which they were conducting business. According to the report, it listed the contact person as Charles Peters with the business phone number for Broomall Pediatric Dentistry. According to the report, none of the employees at Broomall Pediatric Dentistry knew who Charles Peters was. Police are further investigating this incident.
