Commissioners Approve 2012 Road Resurfacing Project

Roads included in the 2012 resurfacing project are Reed Road, Redhill Drive, Park Way, Parkway Drive, Westbourne Drive, and Marpit Road in Broomall.

BROOMALL–At a Marple Township Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday night, the Board unanimously approved, 6-0, to award the 2012 Road Resurfacing contract bid to G. Antonini Construction, of Newtown Square. Commissioners Vice President John Lucas was absent from the meeting.

According to Township Solicitor Adam Matlawski, there was no alternate bidder. The commissioners approved the project bid of $189,215.

The road resurfacing project includes Reed Road, from Reed Road to Parkway and Park Way Ave., from Westbourne Drive to Lawrence Road.

"We're also going to do the new intersection of Marpit Drive and Reed Road. That's pretty beat up from the truck traffic going to the incinerator. That's why we're doing these two pieces. On Parkway at Westbourne, right across from the back entrance of the Lawrence Park Shopping Center, up to Lawrence Road," explained Township Manager Anthony Hamaday after the meeting.

According to Hamaday, the project may start as soon as by the end of the month.

"I'm assuming that once we do all the contracts, which will just about be one week to two weeks, this will probably take them less than a week because they're all in one specific area," said Hamaday about the road resurfacing project.

No lane closures are expected on the roads during this time, said Hamaday.

The cost of the project will be split–one from liquid fuels funding, which is about $100,000 and the remainder will come from the township's capital fund.

Hamaday explained the township received approximately $82,000 from Delaware County Community College [when they were building their STEM building] for road improvements as a contribution which will go towards the 2012 Road Resurfacing Project.

Hi Joanne, It seems like the 2012 Road Resurfacing Project is mainly focusing on roads around the industrial park.
