Copper Tubing, Saxophone Taken from Vacant House, Police Say

Also, a woman realizes her credit card number was stolen when four iPhones arrive at her door, police say.

The following information was supplied by Marple Township Police. Any arrests or charges mentioned do not indicate guilt or conviction. 

 

Unlawful Entry, Burglary—900 block of Cedar Grove Road at about 2:27 p.m. on March 17. Someone removed copper tubing from the basement of a vacant house that is for sale, according to the report. The resident told police that he checks on the house about once a month and noticed it was very cold inside during the last visit, according to the report. The man checked downstairs and discovered all the copper pipes were cut and removed from the heating system and the water lines, according to the report. The exact value of the copper could not be determined. A saxophone was also missing from the living room, according to the report. There were no visible signs of forced entry, according to the report.

ID Theft—Marple Police Station at about 1:17 p.m. on March 8. A woman reported she was victim of identity theft. In February 2013, the woman received four iPhone 5 delivered by UPS to her front door step, according to the report. She then noticed a $847.96 charge on her American Express account and was also notified by the IRS that a 2013 tax return was already filed using her social security number, according to the report. The phones were returned to AT&T, UPS was notified and American Express already reversed the charges, according to the report, and the IRS is working on her fraudulent tax return. AT&T informed the woman that the order originated in Texas, according to the report. Police advised the woman that normally this is result of a compromised AMEX card order via the Internet and after the order is placed they will try to alter the shipping address away from the victim's residence to their address, according to the report. The woman put fraud alerts on her credit files and filed a fraud report with the FTC.
