1. Charlie Phillips CD Release Party

Why Go: Kick back with a cup of coffee and Charlie Phillips’ live music, rooted in rock, soul, folk and blues. Songs from Charlie’s CDs All Roads Lead To Home and JustLove! have received airplay locally on WXPN 88.5 in Philadelphia and WSTW 93.7 in Wilmington, DE. His third album, What It Is, is now debuting.

2. Home Depot Kids’ Workshops
Where/When: Home Depot; Sat., Jan. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Why Go: The free workshops, geared for children ages five through 12, teach do-it-yourself skills and tool safety. Offered on the first Saturday of each month, the workshops offer useful projects, including the creation of toolboxes, fire trucks and window birdhouses. All kids can keep their craft, and receive a free Kids Workshop Apron, commemorative pin, and certificate of achievement.

3. Fore! The Planet
Where/When: Linvilla Orchards; Sun. through Thurs. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fri. and Sat. 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Runs now through March 4.
Why Go: The interactive, indoor museum exhibit is created by the Academy of Natural Sciences, and pairs environmental issues with miniature golf. 18 unique holes explore everything from tropical rainforests to dinosaur extinction to predator and prey. It’s a family-friendly activity.

4. Civil War Movie Series
Where/When: Middletown Free Library; Mon. Jan 9 at 2 p.m.
Why Go: Each month, the library offers a movie to coincide with its Civil War reading and discussion series “Let’s Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War.” This month’s movie is Glory, starring Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman.

5. A Wild West Scavenger Hunt/iPhind Run
Where/When: Bryn Mawr Running Co. (Bryn Mawr location); Sat., Jan. 7 at 1 p.m.
Why Go: It’s a good way to burn off some holiday calories. Bring your iPhone and a team of two to four people, and run wild through the Main Line, locating as many hidden items as you can using your iPhone. Click here to register.
