Get to know this Marple police officer.

Marple Newtown Patch wants you to get to know your first responders. They do dangerous work and Patch would like to recognize them. Meet first responder Jeff Haughey who is an officer with the Marple Township Police Department.

Name: Jeff Haughey

Age: 38

Hometown: Springfield

Rank/Title: Patrolman

How long have you been with the Marple Police Department?

I've been with the Marple Police Department for 13 years. I was serving in Westtown/East Goshen before that.

What do you like about your job?

I like being able to be there when people need our help, and being able to be there to help people work through their problems.

What do you dislike about your job?

Having to see the worst in people. The shift work can also be difficult.

What inspired you to become a police officer?

I had an uncle who was a highway patrolman and I looked up to him a lot. Even though he was in California, I really looked up to him. He was that really cool uncle.

What do you like about the Marple Newtown area?

It's a pretty diverse community–there are lots of different types of people. It’s also centrally located–you can get into Philadelphia within 20 minutes. And most of the residents, in general, are pretty supportive of the police department.

What do you want the general public to know about the Marple Police Department?

All of the officers have the community’s best interest in mind when we work.
