Meet St. Pius X Teacher Maryanne Amole
Meet this St. Pius X teacher who helped start the Pre-K program at the school 20 years ago and still has the passion to teach preschool students.
Marple Newtown Patch is featuring great teachers in the Marple Newtown area who deserve some spotlight. Teachers give a lot to their students, schools and studies and we'd like to recognize them and say a simple, thank you, for all that they do. Meet this teacher who has a passion for pre-kindergarten and helped establish the program at St. Pius X.
Name: Maryanne Amole
School: St. Pius X School
Grade/Subject: Pre-K (4 Year Olds)/Full Day
Years in the Industry: 27
I began my teaching career at Villa Maria Academy teaching 7th and 8th grades–all subjects except music. I taught at Villa for four years until I was married. When my children were little I wanted to get back to teaching and decided to try teaching Pre-K. I worked at the Community Y teaching 3-year-old classes, Mad Scientist classes and Pop-art classes. In 1993 I helped establish the Pre-K program at St. Pius along with Loretta Stenson and Barb Seaver (dear friends and treasured colleagues). This year marks 20 years for St. Pius' Pre-K program. Loretta and I are still a team along with Theresa Vogel. What a blessing these girls are in my life. Over the years we have expanded our program from half to full day and presently I am teaching five full days for four year olds. By my side these past 20 years has been the world's best aide: Maryann Loughry!
What do you like most about your job?
I feel it is an honor and privilege to be a child's first teacher. Every little one has unique gifts and it is a joy to watch them discover these gifts and talents.
Why did you become a teacher?
Teaching is a vocation–I felt called to give back to others.
What do you like best about your current school (projects, programs or activities that your school is a part of):
St.Pius X School is a Marple treasure! We offer so much to our students–a dedicated, loving faculty and strong academics. All of our students use our state-of-the-art science lab (my Pre-K students love it). You will also find even our littlest students using our SMART Boards and computers. We are blessed with an awesome Home and School Board and dedicated parents who have helped us establish our Cub Club (an early literacy program), Winter Wonderland (an early childhood event open to the community), and Summer Enrichment Program that even our little ones can take advantage of.
