Paper Mill House Museum Voted as Best Local Attraction

Paper Mill House Museum earned the most votes by Patch readers as the best local attraction in the Marple Newtown area.

We asked, you answered. The Paper Mill House Museum is, in your opinion, the best local attraction in the area. The colonial Thomas Massey House in Broomall came in second.

According to the Newtown Square Historic Society's website:

The Paper Mill House and Museum is a historic three story stone building along Darby Creek in Newtown Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania that contains an 1850’s era general store, and three levels of a local history museum containing artifacts representing the history of Newtown Township. The original building was constructed in 1828 to house four families that worked at the local mills along the Darby Creek. An addition was built in 1845 to contain a general store that served the community that grew up around the mills. In the immediate area of the site were the William Crosley Woolen Mill (1828-1861) and Casper S. Garrett’s Union Paper Mill (1869-1889).

The Paper Mill House Museum is located at the corner of St. David's and Paper Mill roads in Newtown Square. The museum is only open Sundays from 1-4 p.m. in July and August. Contact them for special group tours.

View a photo tour of the museum here. Or, check out our story on the museum's annual historic tour for elementary school students in the Marple Newtown School District. The 17th Annual Historic Newtown Square Day has been slated for June 2–read about the event from last year here.

Don't forget to review them on their Patch listings page here.

Come back Sunday to see the other winners of Patch sites throughout the area.
