Submit Questions for Next Presidential Debate

If you have a question for the candidates, submit it in the comments section below and it could be asked during the televised Oct. 16 Town Hall Presidential Debate.

If last Wednesday’s presidential debate left you with more questions than answers, here’s your chance for the presidential candidates to address the issues that most matter to you.

The next presidential debate will be a town hall meeting format at Hofstra University in Long Island, where voters will ask President Obama and Mitt Romney about domestic and foreign policy.

Patch is asking you, our readers, to participate by submitting questions for the candidates.

All you have to do is post your question in the comments section below and we’ll send it to the Commission on Presidential Debates. The Commission is partnering with Patch's parent company Aol, along with Google and Yahoo, to take questions from web users across the country.

Don’t wait until Nov. 6 to have a say in this year’s election. Share your thoughts in the comments!

First question. Why are the Presidential debates not open to other candidates running for the Presidency - candidates that offer critical information on the behind-the-scene status of America, opposing viewpoints, and different solutions for our nation's problems such as Gary Johnson of the LIbertarian party?

I am a consciententious objector!!! Abortion is in direct conflict with my religious beliefs. It is my understanding that some faith based employers will be exempt from providing birth control as part of their health care package. As a person who is Pro-Life, why should my tax dollars be used to help pay for a contraceptive provision that includes abortion?

Messed this up but...

Question: The NDAA was signed over the New Year holiday last year. This gives unprecedented power to detain a US citizen without reason and due process. This is unconstitutional, and downright scary. How can you back up the claim that America is the land of the Free when the government has fear engaging powers?

Great question Sharpie.

Why are the American people beholden to this two party duopoly?

Voting for Gary Johnson is NOT a wasted vote. If Gary Johnson gets 5% of the vote that will mean the Libertarian party will get federal funding next election...thus bringing an end to this party duopoly that is ruining our country.

I agree, I'd love to hear from Gary Johnson. But I'd like to know what either candidates would do to prevent a recession similar to that of 1937, when FDR attempted to pay off all of his "new deals"? More spending and blind austerity don't sit well with my generation, retirement seems impossible ( if we even have jobs to retire from).

How many Massachusetts elections did Romney vote illegally in?
He registered to vote years after selling his only house in MA, he had moved to California, but he registered at a MA address: he alleged he was living in the basement of his son's unfinished house in Belmont, MA.

If there is one thing that most Americans agree on, it is that gridlock in Washington is preventing us from solving our problems. President Obama has acknowledged that, until he became President, he didn't realize how hard it would be to get the "other side" to work with him. The question for the President is, "Now that you know how hard it is, if you are reelected with a Republican controlled House and/or Senate, how will things get done any better than they are now?" And for Gov. Romney, "What makes you thing that you would be better than President Obama at working with the "other side" in a Democrat controlled Congress?"

Mr. Romney, in your first debate, you said you didn’t plan a huge tax cut for all Americans, including millionaires and billionaires. However, this is contrary to your own videotaped comments a few months ago when you said:
“We are going to cut taxes on everyone across the country by 20 percent, including the top 1 percent. “ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJzUQwJFW7k
Which is the truth, Mr. Romney, and why did you lie?

Mr. Romney, you said that your healthcare plan will cover pre-existing conditions, while leading news media and your own campaign have said this is FALSE. Why did you LIE?

Mr. Romney, you own or have owned several bank accounts in Switzerland, the Cayman Islands and Bermuda, and you have control over where those funds go, as you have admitted. Why are you betting against America with those foreign funds? And, are you receiving any funds, directly or indirectly, from Communist China in support of your election?

How about... Mr Romney, can you explain to the "47% entitlement class" why the "federal safety net" aid that is available to fully employed workers to help them afford to feed their families, pay their rent and provide some health care for their families should not be considered the single largest corporate welfare program ever. The truth is, corporations could not post the kind of profits that Wall Street loves if they were required to pay workers an actual living wage.

The honest answer is that you can't unless you are willing to research the needs in the job market and then reeducate yourself. What is amazing is that people never thought that they needed to prepare themselves for this and now are wanting someone else to bail them out. Those who went to college and then picked majors with no demand are just as guilty.

I want each candidate to write down, in private, the following information. AND then I want to know the ACTUAL/FACTUAL number. Numbers are for a "typical" family of 4.
What yearly income is poor?
What yearly income is "middle income"?
How much is a gas or electrical bill? Bad month? Good month.
What does it cost for this family to go out to eat (not fancy, not fast-food)?

I would like to know which, if any candidate, has a real grasp of this. I have heard Mitt thinks $250,000 is middle income. Is it?

Finally, have each candidate open his billfold and show us how much cash they carry, and what size bills. THIS I think every American can relate to.

Open presidential debates are a joke and will remain a big joke until and when the people fight for a Viable Third Political Party. And by that, I do not mean the likes of the TEA PARTY that was and remains, no more than a right-wing ultra conservative hand of the Republican Party.
A new political and independent from the current two-party system must be enacted in this country. Only then, will the people have a clear choice and then, you and I will see how the pressing issues of the day will be debated.
That day is here at hand because for too long the current two-party system has done an injustice to the American people especially those of us who get up every morning to go to work.

Until the 1978 Revelation on Priesthood, the Mormon Church disallowed men of African descent from serving in the priesthood. Mitt Romney was 31 years old when this practice was discontinued. I'd like to ask him what it was like to grow up as a member of an officially racist organization.

News flash: The LDS Church doesn't allow women to have the priesthood either. But, I believe every organization discriminates based on some criteria, although I don't think the LDS church ever rejected someone for baptism because of their race.

According to Exodus 29:9, the priesthood of Aaron was an exclusive right that was given to Aaron and his sons. I don't know the reason for the restriction, but the priesthood is a rare gift that has always been reserved for a select few who are prepared to receive it ( see Acts 8: 14-24 concerning the giving of gifts from God). But, maybe you shouldn't ask Mitt Romney this question, but rather someone it has impacted. I imagine the previous restriction on the priesthood probably still bother some members of the LDS church, yet, the Africa and South America are the two fastest growing areas for the church, so maybe it isn't as big of an issue than you think.

When I said VIABLE, I did not mean only being on the ballot in 50 states. Viable means, strong, independent and supported by the people at large; being able to raise the millions of dollars that the two major parties raise each and every election so that he or she can have the same playing field as the two other candidates.
Until tha happens, what we will have are lightweight candidates who will receive 10% to 15% of the national vote and disrupt the election and sometimes causing the better candidate to lose the election.

John, millions of dollars does not mean you have the best message to sell, just that you have lots of money to sell it. It is small-mindness that believes only money, rather than principle, can win a Presidential election. Money often talks for its own interests, not those of the people. The Libertarian party is strong, independent, and is increasingly supported by the people who find no solutions in either major party. It is also difficult to garner support from the people when a candidate or political party is deliberately excluded from nationally televised debates. When you believe the best candidate for the Presidential office is represented by a third party, those with true conscience will vote for them, (not who has the most ads, or the most money) and particularly when unfair and unjust debates are exclusive rather than inclusive of all VIABLE candidates.

In 2007 you promised to make labeling of food with genetically engineered ingredients a priority because "people have a right to know what they are eating" Instead you but a big pro-GMO lobbyist in charge of the FDA? Governor Romney - I'd like to know how you would plan to quantify your Mormon teachings in regards to war and killing, and still be an effective Commander-In-Chief of our military, when your religion usually excludes it's members from military service. Additionally, how will you justify your pro-Vietnam position back in 1968 when you yourself were a conscientious objector, and young men were dying in your place?

This is a great question, but the LDS church does not "exclude its members from military service." ( just look at the bio's for the quorum of the 12 apostles : http://www.ldschurchnews.com/leaders/53469/The-Quorum-of-the-Twelve-Apostles.html)

But, the Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants do seem to offer a differing perspectives on war. Although the church usually abhors war, it accepts it if it is for a righteous cause. Also, the LDS church seems to be fairly good at stressing service to ones country. For more on this you may be interested in 1 Nephi 4 ( from the Book of Mormon, you might want to skim through the first few chapters for context), Alma 14, Alma 43- 62 ( the war chapters) , and Doctrine & Covenants 98 ( note this applies to the people of the church).

Also, you may just want to search LDS.org for scriptures and talks about war.

Finally, I don't know if Mitt Romney was a conscientious objector, or not. I know the LDS church did have members who served in the military at this time, however, I am sure it had a few draft dodgers as well. As for MItt Romney, I heard he just had a high draft number.

Why do we spend 13 billion dollars on a census when it is so inaccurate? Couldn't we better serve the purpose by hiring statisticians to conduct the surveys through different types of sampling? Once the data is gathered through a census, it is already out of date. A census is practically impossible to do! I think someone should address this.

They did away with the census. It is no longer going to be done. Additionally, a census is a good way of keeping records and doing property and ancestral searches needed for mortgages, oil and gas, etc. Additionally, a statistical model will be highly more inaccurate as it will give you at best and the most reliable at a 95% confidence ratio. However, it is based on the model used and how big the randomn sample is that is being used. This would not give us more or less an "average" of US and not the individualized and more accurate snapshot of the citizens. The census is an important piece of historical documentation.

In a recent report, the World Bank concludes that the global economy will have to produce nearly 600 million jobs between 2005 and 2020 just to keep the global rate of joblessness (read unemployment) constant. Without a new engine for global growth, the Bank says, the global economy is likely to undergo a protracted period of stagnation. My first question is: Do you believe that global growth is in the foreign policy and strategic interests of the United States? If so, please expound.

My second question is: In a highly interconnected world, what do you see as the role of the United States in fostering global growth over the next eight years, particularly given the importance of such growth to U.S. economic, political, and strategic interests?

My third question is: Do your plans to create new high-wage jobs in the United States take into consideration realistic assessments of prospective global economic conditions? If so, then what will be the drivers of U.S. and, concomittantly, global growth over the next eight years?

Finally, my fourth question is: How will the creation of 12 million new jobs in the U.S. over the next four years, which is the job creation rate predicted by several government agencies, put a dent in the nation's joblessness rate, particuarly given that the "real" U.S. unemployment rate hovers between 11 percent and 12 percent?

Gov. Romney,
You continously talk about giving more power back to the states. You also said that you support vouchers for schools. People that support the idea of vouchers claim that one of the biggest advantages is that is frees up schools from the "red tape" of unnecessary government regulations and gives those schools more freedom to meet the needs of the students. So my question is can't you simply lower/change the government restrictions/hold over public education by giving that power back to individual states without privatizing education which will inherriently lead to educational profiteering?

Why are you trying to impose on my way of life and what I enjoy? You lost a supporter with the decision to believe in such a ridiculous tactic for crime prevention.

My question, to be addressed to both candidates is...

We went from a balanced budget under President Bill Clinton to $1.2 trillion in less than 10 years (I don't want a review of how we got there). What will your administration's plan be to eradicate (not just reduce) the deficits and when (precisely) will we actually get back to a balanced budget (the biggest security issue in America)?

Apparently, the U.S. military has destroyed some poppy fields this year. But, it appears that throughout the war the U.S. has shied away from such practices because it destroys the livelihood of afghan farmers.

However, Incidentally, drug use among troops in Afghanistan also seems to have increased over the last few years.

What do you think should be the punishment for voter fraud, and how will you ensure that those who engage in it are caught and punished? The Justice Dept has done everything it can to make sure no one has to have an id to vote and we've seen a member of the Obama campaign this week calling it cool when someone claimed they were planning to vote twice. What safeguards do we now have against that? Who is protecting that the power of my one vote is not lessened by those willing to vote illegally?

You do go through an ID process when you go to vote in PA. You sign the poll book & your signature has to match. If not you ARE asked for ID. ID is the red herring, the issue is the flawed law. It changes the rules midstream for hundreds of thousands of people who had been voting legally for years. The implementation of the law is a case study in how not to do it. The dept of state had no time to analyze the law so it changed the rules for getting ID 9 times confusing the staff at DOS & PennDOT: giving out wrong info, making people who don't drive make multiple trips to their inconvenient locations. Now, the ID required only needs an affirmation, no back up documents of any type, not even a soc sec#. I wrote each member of PA assembly before the law was passed, that they should require ID to REGISTER to vote, like the ID that was required for first time voters. Mandatory training of poll workers would do more to stop any appearance of fraud, than this law could ever hope to accomplish. The problem is the law was not passed to stop fraud, just voting. . You can even discount Rep Turzai's statement by just seeing the types of ID required for voting. It made ID many people were using for their day to day transactions invalid for voting because they didn't have an expiration date. They had your name & picture on it, if you used it to vote & your signature matched how could a poll worker have any question of your identity? Who is protecting the votes of the disenfranchised?

We US Citizens are experiencing the worst economic depression in our life time with more than 8% unemployment. A lot of jobs are shipped overseas to India and China particular. At the same time a lot of jobs within our country are taken away by these visa folks from India and China using H1 L1 EAD and now OPT visa(student visa)..If u see the Job prospectus only 10% of Jobs created in USA are gone to US citizens..The reason it is dirt cheap to hire and employ a foreign visa holder..We us citizens are NOT competing with talented foreign visa folks(as the main reason for the allocation of these visa's) but by the cheapest foreign workers.. White Black Native americans are all affected with these dumping of foreign visa folks mainly from India.. Around 70% of work related green cards are gone to folks from India, 80% of all these work visa's are gone to india from 2008..

Let us NOT bring in cheap visa folks but only talented foreign workers whom our country can beneifit from..Let us make it harder for companies to hire these visa folks..One way is Increase these visa fees(H1 L1 EAD, OPT visa) to arond $40K/Annum..so companies pay preimum to hire these folks..

Unemployment for US citizens will a thing of the past if we do that..Until that time whomever be our president our citizens will keep on suffereing and this unemployment for ur will deteriote further..Let us taken action now..

Around 4 Million visa folks are still in these visa..waiting to get green card

You better get your facts straight. What you are saying is absolutely baseless. Nobody, whether from India or china are getting paid dirt cheap. Trust me, I am on a visa, and I get paid more than the people around me with the same experience. It really depends on your expertise and skills and how you negotiated at the time of getting a job. Also, please remember a lot of employers refrain from doing work visa and so on. If you are really that worried, then please ask people to get educated and not just sleep around, have s*X and party all the time. Make a career!!! Don't vent your frustration just because what you feel. Check the facts before writing anything. We also pay the same taxes as citizens do, but we do not get any unemployment benefits if laid off. So, I am paying for your unemployment checks and I am not getting paid anything if I get laid off. How is that fair.

Since entitlements and taxes are so politically volatile, the Gang of Six on Capitol Hill will continue to struggle with 'the Fiscal Cliff.' Thus it's time for the White House to display leadership, management and mathematic skills. If we need to save $109 Billion a year, how much do we save if we
1. release the unneccessary consultants in the federal gov. (30% of 1.5 M)?
2. re-hat the required consultants in the federal gov. (70% of 1.5 M)?

Answer: Based on an average of $200/hr/consultant, $75/hr/gGS employee and 2,088 hours in a federal year, we'd save $462 BILLION. This would account for OVER four years of savings ($109B x 4 = $436B) ...WHICH would give us four plus years to figure out how to best down size the federal government and right size entitlements and taxes.

Governor Romney: You said in the Republican Primary Debates that "[u]nemployment benefits, I think they’ve gone on a long, long, long time. We have to find ways to reduce our spending on a lot of the anti-poverty programs and unemployment programs. But I would far rather see a reform of our unemployment system, to allow people to have a personal account which they’re able to draw from as opposed to having endless unemployment benefits. So, again, let’s reform the system, make the system work better by giving people responsibility for their own employment opportunities and having that account, rather than doling out year after year more money from an unemployment system." Do you think it is appropriate to reduce unemployment benefits and safety net programs during a recession and what do you say to those people who are unable to find employment while you are President and the unemployment benefits are no longer there for them ?

We have heard candidates talking about how nearly half of Americans don't pay taxes, but that's only part of the story. A huge percentage of Americans get huge refunds when they had little to nothing withheld from their paychecks. My job exposes me to thousands of tax returns, and what I see on the majority of them is people getting $4000 to $8000+ refunds each year due to the EIC (Earned Income Credits) and Additional Child tax credits when they paid ZERO in taxes. It's not a REFUND because it is not getting back what a person put in....instead it is a gift, a "Christmas in April" courtesy of other tax payers who actually do pay. I pay in approximately $4000 a year and get no refund because I am single...so in effect one single parent with 2 kids who gets $8000 in free refund money is taking 100% of my tax dollars as well as another person just like me. I'm not totally opposed to the EIC and child tax credits and think they should exist to lower a person's tax liability, however they should be moved to the very bottom of the 1040 where they are only considered to reduce taxes owed. But they should never be allowed to create a refund greater than the amount the individual n paid in, and that is how it has been for years. If this was done it would greatly help in paying down the national debt as well as freeing up billions if not trillions to go towards infrastructure, protection, and services to benefit ALL Americans instead of selected individuals.

To add to your great second question:
During the last 30 years, the income gap between the wealthy and the middle class has grown. According to a Congressional Budget Office study done in 2011,
between 1979 and 2007 income grew by
275 percent for the top 1 percent of households,
65 percent for the next 19 percent,
Just under 40 percent for the next 60 percent, and
18 percent for the bottom 20 percent.

A recent study from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston found that family income mobility has been slowly decreasing in America.

Yes, with the income gap widening, we are seeing a drop in morale. The future does not look good for the middle class. What do you plan to do about it?

How am I supposed to prepare them for a bright future when I do not have the necessary materials to do this? The state I live in has recently adopted the Common Core Standards, but have not made any advances towards providing much needed materials to teach these new standards because of "budget cuts". To add to that, we the teachers are being forced to take pay cuts on top of the already low pay we receive to insure there is funding for other "more necessary" items the state wants to purchase. There will soon be a major shortage of qualified teachers because of these problems. As I see it, why would anyone want to go into a profession that receives very low pay and has to provide most of their classroom needs out of their own pocket? How does the Republican candidate defend the rhetoric of a bipartisanship agenda, or his criticism of Democrats unwillingness to compromise, in the face of the obstructionist record of Republicans in Congress over the past 4 years?

“The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term President.”

Republican leader, Senator McConnell, said that in October, 2010 – at a time when this nation faced monumental challenges, and the Republican congress has done so by holding even the most common sense legislation hostage to partisan showmanship.

Why should the American people believe you will "turn" the Republican party into a cooperative, bi-partisan arena when there is no evidence of any desire on the part of Republicans in Congress to compromise or work with a Democratic president or Congressional Democrats?

How does the Republican candidate reconcile his promises to turn the economy, and the country around while rejecting the need for even the most fundamental public service?

Romney criticized President Obama because he "wants to hire more government workers. He says we need more fireman, more policeman, more teachers. Did he not get the message of Wisconsin? The American people did. It's time for us to cut back on government and help the American people."

How precisely does eliminating the jobs of teachers who educate our children, the police who keep our streets safe, the firemen and women who respond when we face emergencies "help the American people"??

I have two questions, for each candidate, but with a backstory.

I was raped in the early hours of April 6, 2012, by someone I had known for three years and thought I could trust. Force was used, as he carried me while I was unconscious to another room to commit his crime. He admitted this fact to law enforcement. I was lucky that I did not become pregnant -- because I had an IUD in place from when I was in a long-term relationship. Had I not had a birth control method that did not depend on my partner's cooperation, I could have become pregnant from the rape, which would have complicated my recovery from the trauma of such an assault immensely. I required inpatient treatment as it was, and the medication regimen that they found is working best for me while I attend therapy is one that would cause enormous harm to a fetus in utero. The majority of Americans believe that life should be preserved if at all possible.

Mr. Obama: If re-elected, how would you work with state legislatures and Congress as a whole should a Personhood Amendment come to your desk to sign -- I'm not talking veto, but what language could you see being Constitutional and fair?

Mr. Romney: You are on record as supporting a Personhood Amendment that would include only exceptions in the case of the life of the mother, rape, or incest. How would you go about determining whether a person like me had been raped, and should the mental health of the mother be considered?

Regarding government spending. If you add together the budgets of the Department of Defense, State Department, Homeland Security, CIA, spending earmarked for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as other spending designated for security or war, the total bill comes to $1.6 Trillion, roughly 50% of every tax dollar. In your administration, will this spending increase or decrease, and how will this affect the budget deficit?

Please address the issues facing our nations disabled veterans as they apply to concurrent receipt of retirement pay & VA disability pay. Serving in the military comes with many hazards, certainly when deployed but ALSO at home. They are constantly exposed to physically challenging situations, put under varying degrees of stress and are often in jobs on the homefront that directly affect lives and outcomes on the front lines, leaving them susceptible to a host of physical and mental illnesses & injuries without having to deploy. Once they are found to be no longer fit for service due to these injuries or illnesses, they are either discharged with severance pay (which is later recouped) or if the severity of their illnesses or injuries is more severe, they are medically retired. Currently concurrent receipt of military retirement and VA disability pay is ONLY given if they served 20 years OR if they were medically retired due to an injury sustained in combat. Disabled veterans, who were injured or fell ill & were medically retired for something not combat related can only receive one or the other, neven if both were awarded. This is not nearly enough income to survive. Why is there a double standard & one veteran's service time being cut short is more valuable than another's? Will either candidate make it a priority to open concurrent receipt of retirement & disability pay to all disabled heroes regardless of how or where they fell ill or were injured while serving our nation?

Hi Vicky, jobs are created by a mathematical calculation called "break even analysis which calculates fixed and variable cost. When regulatory controls increase, health costs are uncertain with 30 million new participants and unions are supported which either raise labor costs or send jobs overseas business can't calculate break even . So the risks are to great. That is what has happened the past 4 years. Hope this helps.

I'm a business person who deals with the public. In my simple poll I have come up with consistent data. I've asked the question; what percent of the truth do we get from our government? All responded; less than 50% and the median was 30%. With that info I ask two more questions (which I would liked asked in the next pres debate).

If we think we are getting half or less than half of truth then how do they expect us to vote for the ultimate good of the country? And... If I were an employer who suspected that my employee was giving me less than half the truth would I keep that employee? (as in our government being employees of the people).

Lastly... A local person was going through deputy training where he had to go through multiple interviews, extensive background checks with past relations being interviewed, a psychological analysis, and two lie detector tests. All this so he had the opportunity to carry a gun, uphold the law, and potentially shoot someone. That being said, do we think this same sort of process should be performed on any presidential candidate as he will have the potential to kill 100's to millions? I think, YES. Unfortunately I don't think any past, current, or Romney would pass.

Mr. President,

I have a leadership position with a small manufacturing company in Ohio which has approximately 100 employees. For a variety of reasons, I am currently faced with a decision on whether to make an additional personal investment in this small business.

Unfortunately, the political and economic environment under your presidency weighs negatively on this decision because I see many issues coming out of your administration as being stacked against our business’s development. These include the following: Obama care - we have had record insurance increases since your healthcare law was enacted; Excessive govt. regulation – for example, I personally have spent countless hours trying to deal with environmental compliance; The NLRB under your leadership has been one sided in favor of Labor and against employers; I believe you have consistently conveyed a message of vitriol toward business owners; and Finally if our company somehow manages to be just a little successful , then you want to increase taxes to an extent which would dramatically reduce our potential return.

My questions to you are the following: 1) Do you understand how someone like myself would be hesitant to make an investment to help create jobs in this environment; 2) Should we expect anything different in a 2nd Obama term; and 3) If individuals such as myself are discouraged from investing in small business, then do you even consider that to be a bad thing.

1. Obama. As a candidate you promised to form an international working group to help internally displaced Iraqis and Iraqi refugees, but citing security concerns, your administration has issued significantly fewer visas than is currently authorized by congress. With the war in Iraq officially over, and the war in Afghanistan winding down, what are you doing to help expedite the immigration process for these refugees, specifically those whose lives have been endangered because they assisted the U.S. government in its war efforts?

Romney. As President, what would you do to expedite the immigration process of these refugees.

2. Obama. The Obama administration's increased use of unmanned aerial vehicles ( or drones) to attack suspected enemy combatants and Al-Qaeda sympathizers hiding in places such as Pakistan and Yemen has bread greater contempt for the U.S across the Islamic and Arab world and it has strained our relationship with some of our allies in the War on Terror, particularly in Pakistan. How would you assess our relationship with Pakistan, and do you think the War on Terror has created more enemies than we have eliminated?

Here is a little background to maybe help understand my question better. I am twenty years old now and I have been going to college as a full time student for two years. In the summer time I work four jobs (2 full time and 2 part time) to make enough money to pay for the upcoming semester’s tuition. During college I still manage to work two of the four jobs. The situation that upsets me is the fact that while I am on campus I happen to over hear people talking about how they use the government to pay for their college tuition. These comments are coming from people who say they choose not to work because the government already pays them for doing nothing at all, so why get a job. Second, no offense to hard working mothers going to school, but I hear some saying that the only reason they had a child was so that way the government would pay for their college. The reason I bring this up, is because my hard earned money is given to those who are unappreciative and undeserving of it with my tax money. They use and abuse myself and others, just so they can reap the benefits. So as a young concerned citizen, as President: How would you propose making my hard earned tax money going to those who actual deserve it and not to those who will not help the Country prosper later in their life? Because if they did not have initiative to work hard to support themselves in the first place, what guarantees us that they will if they get their degree?

Question - Can you address one of the largest factors of the recession. We have been told that it was largely due to the housing market collapse. Can anyone address Obama's involvement in either requiring, suggesting, or presuring banks (including Fanny and Fredy) to issue loans to people who could not afford them?

WSJ & Time did excellent articles on this and would answer your question. Time listed those most responsible in order. WSJ went back to Carter's time and came forward with how this all evolved. Neither of these guys were that involved. Bush just barely made the top 5 in the Time article and barely mentioned in the WSJ article.

President Obama,

I do not believe the average American is aware of the amount of Executive Orders you have endorsed since becoming President.

Please explain to the American People why you have issued 923 Executive Orders since becoming President, when all Presidents combined since President Teddy Roosevelt have issued a total of 121 Executive Orders.

You owe the American People an explanation, because many of your orders infringe on the Freedom of "We the People".

To believe we are a "shining" example of what a democracy is would not be very close to being honest, considering the corruption seen in all levels of government, the inability to put aside party differences to do what is in the best interest of the country, the ability of lobbyists to sway votes, the ability of super pacs to provide millions of dollars to promote lies, and now the stance that corporations are "people" among the many recent examples we have shown the rest of the world.
We openly speak of endorsing democracy around the world, yet we do not recognize some democratically elected groups (Hamas) and individuals (Putin and Chavez) very well at all. A hypothetical question to both Gov. Romney and President Obama: If Al Qaeda or the Taliban would openly out down their weapons and become involved in the politics of the countries that they are presently involved in and actually get elected into power such as Hamas, would you recognize them?

Eventually, after college I would love to have a high paying job, get married, have a family and live a great life. For both Gov. Romney and President Obama. Right now there is a great deal of talk about the possibility of Iran making a nuclear bomb. Pakistan openly allows terrorists in and out of their country and they seemingly are not able to stop it. On Sept. 11, Sen Paul asked for aid to Pakistan to be cut for several reasons including their demonstrations during that time frame against the US. We gave roughly $1.5 Million in aid to Pakistan in 2010. Israel citizens used American passports and ID’s when they traveled to Dubai to assassinate a suspected arms dealer. We provided over $2.9 Million in aid to Israel that same year. This is just a sampling of what we consider “allies” and each has nuclear weapons. Israel proposes striking out at Iran. What you do as President in the area of foreign aid to ALL countries considering this money could be used to help our own citizens, but more importantly, if either of these countries used their nuclear weapons against their enemies?

Again, come on, let's elevate the quality of the questions. Gas is an export because we have an abundance of it. Oil is a import becasue we consume bunches of it. Diesel is a refinement and we have refineries so we export refined oil. We aren't being held hostage by big oil, if you want to get off the consumption of oil, the answer is found in engineering and the political will and focus. Just like many of the large engineering feats this country has accomplished, it takes an incremental, one-step-at-a-time to develop an alternative, a lot of money and the political will. Big oil doesn't play a role.

I suffer from multiple physical conditions. The first is from a severe case of hammer toes on both feet, though the right foot is the worse the shape on the bottom of my foot causes walking on the foot bone, on the right front side of the foot. Walking for me is a challenge, and no medicine I take, really, helps enough to allow me to be pain free. As a result of this, I am unable to exercise so weight gain is a constant issue. In addition to this, I suffer from tendonitis. This causes inflammation of my feet, wrists and the joints in my fingers. This is really a problem as I work with the computer on a daily basis, so typing is extremely, extremely painful. On top of that I suffer from thyroid issues. I am not interested in management of the disease but rather some sort of permanent solution, there I say a cure? I live in the Los Angeles area. I tried to go through the, county, rheumatology clinic, waited for years, for an appointment to go to one of the Los Angeles County hospitals, and have the issue taken care of. The appointment never came. I have insurance through the employer, however, hardly have the time to go to the doctor? I need this taken care of without fear of losing my job cause what I need is an operation, that will take me off the job for weeks, maybe months. I have few options in term of another less stressful job. What can the health plans from either candidates do for me to solve my issue?

My questions are for the President on the Libya attack that occurred on 9/11/12
Mr President last week during the VP debate the Vice President stated that the White House proclaimed the event was driven by the anti-Muslim video tape based on the intelligence information it was receiving. That somehow the White House did not know the facts. Last week the State Department testified that at no point did it consider the event anything other than a terrorist act. The UN Ambassador who works in the State Department, stated 5 days after the event on 5 different news programs that this was not a terrorist event.
Mr President, who within the White House approved the UN Ambassador’s participation in the news programs and the position of the Administration that was to be communicated that day? Who within the White House was communicating to the President and Vice President that the incident was a result of the video tape and not a terrorist act which is apparently the basis for a number of comments from you and the White House? From whom within the State Department was this information coming to the White House?

Congressional testimony also verifies that there had been a number of fairly recent attacks in Libya prior to the 9/11/12 attacked. Mr President… was the White House, you or the Vice President ever briefed on these attacks prior to 9/11/12. If not why not? If yes why did you fail to brief up security in Libya as requested by people within the State department who were working in Libya?
Mr President, given that 4 US Citizens died on that day, how are you going to hold accountable the people within your administration for their actions or failures to take action and for the decisions that were made leading up to the event and for the communication failures within the administration that followed? The safety of the American public is dependent upon our intelligence agencies and the communication of threats to the President who is the Commander and Chief. Shouldn’t this be a top priority to make sure we can rely on our government working in this area? If you recall one of the significant lessons of the original 9/11 attack is that we had a serious breakdown in our intelligence/security agencies and the missed several opportunities to stop the attacks that occurred that morning.

Mr President, given the questions this event and subsequent handling of it raises about the Administration’s policies in the middle east and its management of our intelligence/state department. Shouldn’t the administration answer these questions prior to the election? This event occurred over a month ago. Common sense dictates that any reasonably managed administration should be able to answer a majority of these questions prior to the election. Otherwise is appears that the Administration is attempting a cover-up and is not living up to its promise of transparency.

As it shows on each of his returns he paid all appropriate US taxs on those accounts. The real question is, how can we turn the tables on off shore accounts and incentivise people in the US and people abroad to park their money, here in the US. Change our tax code, eliminate capital gains and income tax on investment and you'll see a flood of capital come to our shores. With that capital small business has a lot of money to expand and grow.

CANDIDATE QUESTION ON
CONSTITUTIONAL EQUAL RIGHTS FOR WOMEN AND MEN
(2012)

Given that
• in the January 2011 issue of California Lawyer, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said, “Certainly the Constitution does not require discrimination on the basis of sex. The only issue is whether it prohibits it. It doesn't.”
and that
• in April 2012, responses to a Daily Kos/Service Employees International Union poll that asked, “Do you think the Constitution should specifically guarantee equal rights for men and women, or not?” were 91% yes, 4% no, and 5% not sure;

do you as a candidate for President of the United States believe that the U. S. Constitution should include a specific guarantee that women and men have equal rights?

I'm a Bible-believing Christian who is tired of Romney saying he's one also, yet Mormonism is TOTALLY Different and NOT a "demoniation" of Christianity. Since Romney's been campaigning about his religious "good works" this time around, please ask 2 questions of him, as follows:
1) Do you agree with the Book of Mormon doctrine that says Satan and Jesus are brothers;
and, 2) Do you agree with the Book Of Mormon that says God was originally a Man who BECAME God; and that men who are judged as "good Mormons," after death, will be Exalted to being a God, themselves, who rule over Their Own planet, along with spiritual wives and kids?
These are not questions based upon Religious Intolerance, but rather based upon seeking the truth about Mormonism vs. Christianity that no media people have approached in Romney's many Presidential tries. Uninformed Christians should not be left open to "silence" on Romney's, shall we say, "personal values / spiritual-religious values." Christians need to be informed of his views to make a better and more intelligent voting decision. Thank you. Luther in Chicago!!

Millions of dollars that have been spent on political campaigns in the last several elections, often for negative ads and slamming the opposing parties. Many citizens feel that this money could be so much better used to help the state of the US economy or for other more positive things. Surely the original founders of our country could never have imagined this.
1) Do you agree that the increasing amount of money spent on campaigns has gotten out of hand and,
2) If elected, what would you do to try to rein in this spending?

Yes it is fair! Romney already paid taxes on this income at a much higher rate. Now he's paying the rate on capital gains or dividend income. Come on, let's get it together here. If you want to tax capital gains or dividend income at the regular rate, you will be able to hear a huge sucking sound as people move their money off shore. Let's not get down on success, maybe we should thank him for the huge amount of taxes he likely paid in the past when it was earned income.

We asked for help through the HOPE program but were told by a local counselor to do a short sale instead. We didn't, we stayed until we were foreclosed since we didn't have any other options. I can understand how someone might be upset about the US losing jobs to China. But, it seems odd for Americans to criticize a company for moving to China while they continue to buy the products that they manufactured there. I don't know if you are culpable in this regard, but the fact is we live in a global economy in which the US buys a lot of stuff from countries like Canada, Mexico, and China, but it also ships a lot of stuff to these countries. So there are probably positives and negatives for all sides involved in these arrangements.

However, speaking of hurting American companies, what is most egregious is when American consumers damage a company's earning potential and brand image by knowingly buying knockoff products from China, such as luxury handbags or watches, in order to save a few bucks. Investing in these phony product also hurts jobs and often times it provides funding for criminal activity. Not only have Americans companies come to rely on cheap labor from countries like China, but American consumers have also fueled a demand for cheap products, both of which have benefited some while arguably also hurting the American economy

"Judge not, that ye be not judged.

For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?"

Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

-----
In your assessment, you never address the possibility that you yourself may be the one with faulty judgement. You will not learn anything in life if you assume that you know all the answers. But, the way you frame the question indicates that you most likely have disqualified Romney as a candidate based on his religious preferences and that no answer from Romney would satisfy you.

Now, I know there is strong and deep-rooted mistrust and disdain for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ( or Mormons) from some groups of fellow Christians, which is why I was surprised to see Mitt Romney's former opponent, Mike Huckabee, give such a passionate speech at this years Republican National Convention in favor of Mitt Romney. While the speech didn't convince me that I should vote for Mitt Romney, it did reaffirm that success is more about policies rather than religion.

Jane, i'ts not likely someone that 'earns barely enough to put food on the table' is paying a 25% rate - you loose credibility on that, but let's rephrase it at 15% the same as Romney. We don't know exactly what Romney paid on his taxes at the point in time this money was earned income, however it is reasonable to assume it was at the highest rate or close ~ 35%. So he has already paid his taxes on this income, now he's paying it again, but at a lower rate, which is reasonable. So you might be able to add the two ~35% plus the 15% and you get the picture that he has likely paid quite a bit in taxes, more than his fair share! But to David's comment below. There's the small picture, which says let's tax this very small percentage of our population at a higher a rate - we maybe talking about 1% to 1/2 of 1% of the population. The amount of money that we would get into the Federal Gov't is minuscule. However, if we restructured our tax code so that we pull in discretionary income from all over the world to our shores, the potential is HUGE. David, you can play small ball or long ball. I choose to play long ball and get smart about money and jobs and get this economy on fire.

This was know as "fair trade". Since 1980 America has replaced "fair trade" with "free trade" and we have lost tens of thousands of manufacturing plants and millions of jobs have been outsourced. From 1980 until now America has lost more then 8 trillion dollars in wealth through our trade deficit. If they become severely ill, or require nursing home care, nothing is left for their families. Is it fair to allow people with multimillion-dollar estates to leave millions to their heirs while people who have worked hard during their lives but have only modest material wealth have nothing to leave behind, thanks to Medicaid liens? If you feel that is not fair, what would you do to ensure that people at all economic levels can leave something to their children, regardless of access to sophisticated estate planning options?

Children often play games mimicking real life situations. Cops & Robbers, Cowboys and Indians, War Games. How will your administration spin the new game of TSA Agent and Passenger where an intrusive search or near sexual assault takes place on a more frequent basis than TSA agent arresting a terrorist takes place? How do you feel about the appositeness of the TSA and DHS in a country where nearly every traveler is law abiding?

Mr. Obama and Mr. Romney, why does the world still have antiquated energy sources founded in the late 1880's when the world has many other options that are kept from the people by the denial of patents for new energy technologies (such as sonofusion/cold fusion, zero point energy, etc.) which could save our planet from destruction, our waters/soils/and air from pollution, and benefit humanity tremendously? When will patents for new energy technologies be advanced so that humanity can prosper beyond the 1800's, and humanity and our planet be saved?

Part 2. Why shouldn't congressmen/women and senators participate in social security/Medicare, instead of taxpayers paying for exclusive benefits, that they have voted into place for themselves?

As the cost of college increases dramatically year after year, why should a high school student consider college if he/she must borrow in order to attend? Many students today are now graduating with $75,000 of debt and no way of repaying those loans.

As a non-religious person, I am happy that I live in a secular country. However, it seems that religion is becoming more embroiled in politics. It seems that some religious groups want to impose their interpretation of religious morality (based on the Bible) on everyone else, even others who do not share their religious views. (This is exactly what we are against in the Middle East with fundamentalist governments.) How do you reconcile your personal religious beliefs with the fact that we live in a secular society where the beliefs of one religion should not be imposed upon anyone?

Lack of decipline in schools make it extremely difficult to educate the students as it is more an issue of babysitting without offending the children and their parents resulting in giving the children and their parents more authority than the school teachers and the school administration, thus resulting in the growth in crimes in our communities. As a result teachers do not earn enough to put up with this type of abuse from their students. What can and will be done to correct this problem in schools and reduce our crimes in our communities?

Millions of Americans get tax refunds GREATER than the amount of taxes they had withheld due to the EIC (Earned Income Credits) and Additional child tax credits. The term REFUND implies that someone is getting back what they paid in, but these are actually large GIFTS of several thousand dollars to millions of households courtesy of other taxpayers. If 100% of my taxes as well as that of someone just like me is going to another family just because they have kids, then how do my tax dollars benefit me and go towards the services, protections, and infrastructure that they should be going to? Billions of dollars each year are passed out to these families courtesy of this INVISIBLE entitlement that many Americans don't know about because nobody ever talks about it. Why can't you move these tax credits to the bottom of the 1040 so they can still work against tax liability, yet eliminate being used to refund people more than what they paid in? Thank you.

I am a 59 year old woman, lives alone, working 2 jobs with a total income of less than $40,000 a year. I have had to borrow from 401K to supplement for medical and emergency situations. I now owe an IRS bill of $3300 which will be increased when I file my 2012 taxes by another $5000 because I needed to borrow from 401K again for emergency medical expenses. I have no savings left, I live pay check to pay check as my employer provided medical insurance premiums continue to rise, my copays to physician and pharmacy continue to rise, gas prices are at the extreme high again, groceries, power and even water/solid waste monthly expenses are increasing. I will have to work until I am 75 and then even afraid I will not be able to support myself alone. I listen to the reteric about cutting taxes. What about forgiving me a debt? that will obviously take me years to pay. Why do I have to be penalized for the debt mess President Obama has let get out of control all the while helping the greedy with stimulous and the thieves stealing from the SS and welfare/Medicaid system off my tax dollars!

Cindy, under Obama's plan you would not have had to borrow against your 401K to pay medical bills....you instead would have health coverage. Also, I find it ironic that you want YOUR debts forgiven but anyone else who is disabled or needs help is a "thief stealing from your tax dollars".

Educate yourself instead of looking to blame others for your problems...The Republican health care plan is for you to go to the ER when you are sick (and be charged huge expenses which you will never be able to re-pay) or lay down and die.

Richard - I find your response attacking. Why don't you try to have a little compassion for those of us that are struggling and would like to have a chance to get a break too! Last time I checked it was still my right to express an opinion. According to your statement above you obviously missed that I do pay insurance premiums for medical coverage and I do have increased large deductible with copay due in ER as well as upon admission into the hospital that falls into major medical deductible. Under Obama my premiums have double for my portion I pay through payroll deduction. Prior to Obama my employer covered my premiums because I am a single person with no dependents. By the way, my medical emergencies were cardiac related - maybe I should have died. Obviously you do not live in the deep south where cheating the SS, Medicaid and food stamp system is rampant. Maybe you need to educate yourself on the reality that there are large numbers of people that take without making an effort to contribute and I for one am tired of carrying them.

Has any or cans any Government leader or one who wants to be leaders explain to us why we should build the Keystone pipeline to Texas?
The numbers I have read is the cost of building the line would be 7 Billion dollars and provide jobs for 5 years! That is great however a little research on the internet and we find it is estimated to cost 2 billion dollars to build a new refinery that meets all of EPA requirements. So why not build a new refinery where the current pipe line ends, plus run a billion dollars worth of pipe line east towards the major cities and then build a second refinery. More jobs were be created and jobs would continue beyond the time frame of the building as man power would be needed to run both refineries and most important the refined gas, diesel and heating oil would be kept in the United States and not shipped from the refineries on the Texas coast to some overseas ports.
And there is a 2 billion dollar savings to the oil producer.
Looks to me like this would be a win win for the US consumer and the oil producer. The only looser is the Texas refineries that want to ship more overseas.

Obama and Romney. Why not create government jobs? When government jobs will stop companies pick pocketing from the governments main resource, "The American people" example! security companies use the American people to profit money from business who need & want security. Why not create a gov. security job and those profits can be going to cutting our nations debt in half. As i put time to calculate the profits, and math proves just security alone can revenue $2.7 trillion in one year.

"The American People" u must understand the government will start giving more more to banks and etc.. to help better our economy. when government opens up doors and guide's the American people to these doors and say let's fight back. Fight back how? Compete against the security companies that are using our American people to profit money. when the government should understand that too, "we can be using that profit in much better use in this nation"... READ THIS ITS VERY IMPORTANT To Us All!
All security companies combined total of the American People who are Security Guards certified and working is 1,177,391 as of 2012. When the security companies charge businesses $20 an hour per guard. I have done the research myself as there is not an exact/correct number to use in any website. Math Proves from my knowledge and years of research that 1,177,391 x $20 =$23,547,820
So in one hour as we speak, all companies combined revenue $23,547,820 hourly
$23,547,820 x 8 hours = $188,382,560 per shift
$188,382,560 x 2 = $376,765,120 16 hours/2 shift's
Now in one year going on average 2 shift's a day not including grave yard
376,765,120 x 365 days = $137,519,268,800 per year
The percentage of security guards is less Than 1% of 314,603,417 American citizens. Creating government security for businesses who need and want security is the right path for our nation to be redeemed. We can hire more security up to 16% of the nations population and revenue 2.7 trillion a year. and at the same time welcome legal immigrants. using our population as an advantage. problem solved in just 4 years we can cut our nations dept more than half. 2.7 trillion x 4 years= revenue $10.8 trillion. The American People is this nations greatest resource to build our nation strong again.
