BROOMALL–The Phillie Phanatic was a surprise guest at Russell Elementary School's End of the Year celebration on Monday afternoon.

The Phanatic helped kick off the celebration with a few dance routines, pumping up the students to announce the total amount collected in the school's recycling collection, the teachers who won in the school's Sour Face Contest to benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, and the students who portrayed May's character trait–cooperation.

The school raised $2,878.14 in their recycling collection and over $200 in their spring Sour Face Contest and lemonade stand. Earlier in the school year, the school raised over $2,000 with their bat-o-lanterns project.

Students were able to purchase lemonade during their lunch periods and voted with quarters for the teacher with the most 'sour face' in the annual contest to raise money for Alex's Lemonade. Russell school teachers Linda Leidy won second place, and Lindsay Kiefer won first place in the contest.
