Police Blotter: $6,300 Worth of Lottery Tickets Stolen, Aggravated Assault With a Gun, Marijuana Arrests

GPS Stolen From Vehicle

On Feb. 20 at approximately 10:57 a.m., responded to the 100 block of Locust Street and Tennis Avenue for a reported theft from a vehicle. According to the report, someone had entered an unlocked vehicle and removed a Garmin Nuvi GPS unit. The GPS is valued at approximately $189.

Man Fails Alphabet Test in Sobriety Test

On Feb. 19 at approximately 1:26 p.m., police observed a vehicle pulled over on the shoulder of the roadway at West Chester Pike/Rt. 3 and Alice Grim Boulevard. According to the incident report, the vehicle was facing westbound with the engine running and had its four-way flashers on. Police approached the driver and passenger of the vehicle and asked the driver if everything was okay. The man did not reply or acknowledge the officer, according to the report. According to the report, the passenger of the vehicle spoke to the officer instead and said they were lost and looking for a street in Philadelphia. According to the report, police were able to detect a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The driver, Danny Cardoza, 20, of Scotch Plains, NJ, eventually acknowledged the officer and exited the vehicle to perform a few sobriety tests. When police asked the Cardoza to recite the alphabet, he told police he did not know the alphabet, according to the report. After being arrested, Cardoza told police he was able to recite the alphabet in which he failed to recite by mixing up the letters of the alphabet. Cardoza was transported to Springfield Hospital for blood withdrawal. Cardoza was arrested and charged on DUI as a minor and for the purchase, consumption, possession or transportation of liquor.

$6,300 Worth of Lottery Tickets Stolen

On Feb. 19 at approximately 7 p.m., police received a report from a manager of the on 3608 West Chester Pike for a reported theft. The manager told police he recently took inventory of his PA Lottery scratch-off tickets and found that several packs were missing. He reported that 21 packs of lottery tickets were missing, in which each pack of tickets is valued at $300. The value of the 21 packs of lottery tickets are valued at $6,300. Police are further investigating this incident.

Man Flees Gym After Stealing Money From Lockers

On Feb. 14 at approimately 3:30 p.m., police received information about a theft that had just occurred at the at 3819 West Chester Pike. According to the incident report, police spoke with an employee at the fitness center who told police that at approximately 2:20 p.m. the employee was checking the men's locker room area due to the recent number of thefts reported. The employee told police that he observed Carl Kasarsky, 20, of Broomall, standing in the locker room looking "suspicious." The employee told police he observed Kasarsky open a separate locker and looking through several other lockers in the area. According to the report, Kasarsky observed the employee watching him and immediately left the locker room. When the employee started to follow him out of the locker room, Kasarsky started to walk faster and began running out of the building. Kasarsky then fled to his car in the far parking lot from the gym. Upon arriving back to the gym, the employee was approached by another member of the gym who reported that his locker had been opened and money had been taken. The man told police that he had numerous dollar bills in his wallet that were stolen. At approximately 5 p.m., police received information from Marple police that they observed Kasarsky's car in the parking lot of the parking lot in Broomall. Kasarsky was transported back to Ellis Athletic Center in which he was identified as the one involved in the theft. Kasarsky was found to have 41 $1 bills and $70 of other bills. Kasarsky later admitted to theft and also admitted to a theft the day prior and stealing a watch from the locker room as well. Police also discovered bottles of alcohol in Kasarsky's trunk during further investigation. Kasarsky was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, and purchase of alcoholice beverages by a minor.

Man Crashes Car Into Resident's Tree, Arrested for DUI

On Feb. 14 at approximately 12:11 a.m., police responded to the 100 block of Mansion Road for a one-vehicle crash involving a vehicle lying on its passenger side. Upon arrival, police met with the homeowner of where the vehicle had crashed who told police that he had heard a car crash in front of his home, and upon leaving his home he observed driver climbing out of the vehicle. Police later spoke with the driver, Alexander Defeo, 20, of Broomall, who told police that he had hit the curb and then the vehicle rolled onto its side and then slid. While speaking to Defeo, police said they detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Defeo, according to the report. Police administered a breathalyzer test on Defeo, in which he was recorded to have a 0.16 percent blood alcohol content. According to the report, Defeo was traveling eastbound on Mansion Road when he hit the curb and rolled onto the resident's home before hitting the resident's tree, which caused the vehicle to roll on its side. Defeo was transported to Springfield Hospital for blood withdrawal. Defeo was arrested and charged with DUI as a minor, careless driving, and purchasing alcoholic beverage as a minor.

Marijuana Found in Between Man's Shoe and Sock in Traffic Stop

On Feb. 13 at approximately 10:47 p.m., police made a car stop at West Chester Pike and Clyde Lane after observing the driver make a left onto West Chester Pike from S. Newtown Street Road through a steady red light. Upon approaching the driver through the driver's side window, police detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from vehicle, according to the report. When asked if the driver had any marijuana, the driver reluctantly admitted that his front seat passenger had about a gram of marijuana on him. The passenger, Peter Conboy, 21, of Newtown Square, pulled out a hand-rolled cigarette from between his shoe and sock when police inquired about the marijuana. Upon further investigation, police discovered a large M&M candy container withholding a pipe with burnt marijuana residue on it. Conboy was arrested and charged with prohibited acts/penalties.

Driver and Passenger Found With Several Small Bags of Marijuana

On Feb. 13 at approximately 3:51 p.m., police responded to the eastbound area of West Chester Pike and Tuxedo Avenue for a report of a reckless driver. A detective from the Coatesville Police Department informed police that he observed the vehicle swerving in and out of lanes at a high rate of speed, and cutting off other vehicles. In addition, the detective observed the driver and passenger of the vehicle to be smoking a "blunt," according to the report. Newtown police were able to locate the vehicle heading eastbound around the 3400 block of West Chester Pike and accelerate through at 15mph school zone. Police activated their emergency light in an attempt to pull over the vehicle but the vehicle was reluctant to pull over. Police were able to force the vehicle to stop by pulling in front of the vehicle around the 3100 block of West Chester Pike just west of Media Line Road. When police approached the driver, a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. When police removed the driver from the vehicle and asked if there were any drugs in the vehicle, the driver stated, "There is a blunt in the ash tray. We just smoked it," according to the report.

The driver was identified as Adam Sinclair, 35, of Broomall, was transported to Springfield Hospital for blood withdrawal. Upon further investigion, police discovered a small bag in Sinclair's sock. Sinclair was arrested and charged with DUI with a controlled substance, two counts of prohibited acts/penalties, driving while his license was revoked or suspended, and for careless driving. Marple police was also on scene and removed the passenger from vehicle and was identified as Robert Rudolph, 32, of Philadelphia, in which they discovered a small bag of what appeared to be marijuana in his right front pocket. In addition, a small aluminum pipe containing burnt marijuana was discovered in the front pocket of his sweatshirt. Another small bag of marijuana was found in the man's jacket pocket, according to the report. Rudolph was arrested and charged with two counts of prohibited acts/penalties.

Man Makes Terroristic Threats With Gun, Friend Hides Gun From Police

On Feb. 10 at approximately 4:06 a.m., police responded to the parking lot at 10 N. Newtown Street Road/Rt. 252 for a report of a man with a handgun and had threatened the callers who had made the police report. According to the incident report, police received an updated report that the man left the parking lot, drove and parked in the driveway on one of the homes on the unit block of Reese Avenue. Upon arrival, police met with James Bell, 22, of Broomall, the owner of the vehicle and the man indicated by the victims at the incident. According to the incident report, Bell "emphatically denied" that he had any contact with the victims but then stated that he had yelled at them thinking they were his friend. Bell later told police that he knocked on the victims' car's window with a bottle that had been in the car. According to the report, police were unable to locate a weapon in Bell's vehicle or in the resident's living room. At approximately 7:30 a.m., a man, Philip Calabrese, 27, of Newtown Square, from the residence on Reese Avenue, where Bell was, went to the Newtown Police Station to return the semi-automatic handgun as described by the victims. The handgun was shown to Bell, who told police that after he arrived to the residence, he placed the handgun on the living room floor and had Calabrese place the handgun in the home office. Calabrese later admitted to panicking when Bell came back to the residence, and said he removed the handgun from the floor to the home office to hide from officers. Bell was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats with intention to terrorize others, harrasment by physical contact and disorderly conduct. Calabrese was arrested and charged with obstructing administration of law or other governmental functions and for tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
