Police: Son Assaults Mom, Steals Car For Heroin

The 35-year-old Newtown Square man was arrested and charged for theft of unlawful taking, criminal trespassing, receiving a stolen vehicle and for the use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–On June 8 at approximately 7:20 p.m., responded to the unit block of Boot Road for a reported domestic assault incident.

Upon arrival, police spoke with the victim in the incident, the mother, who told police she had just arrived home to find her 35-year-old son back in his bedroom when she had "kicked him out of the house" two days prior.

According to the report, when she confronted her son about being back home, the son demanded money so that he could buy drugs. The mother told police the son has a heroin addiction issue, according to the report.

When the mother denied the son money, according to the report, the son "grabbed her by the throat and dragged her into the bedroom where he told her to find money."

The mother eventually told the son that the money was in her vehicle, in which he took the keys and drove off, according to the report.

On June 11 at approximately 11:46 a.m., police located the stolen vehicle in the parking lot of Greer Park. According to the report, police found the man in the driver's seat with what appeared to be blood and a hypodermic needle that was found next to the man.

The son was arrested and charged for theft of unlawful taking and criminal trespassing. Bail was set for $5,000 with a 10 percent cash option on June 11 before Magisterial District Judge Leon Hunter.

In addition, the son was arrested and charged for receiving stolen property and for the use or possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set for $10,000 with a 10 percent cash option. A preliminary hearing was scheduled on June 14 and has been continued to July 5.
