The blast of intense summer heat has been an excellent motivator in searching out a frozen treat from Broomall's new shop, SwirlFrutti. This was the week to give into temptation and indulge. Looking back, we have no regrets.
Monday afternoon, we opened the door to a serene little world, leaving behind us the noise of construction, traffic, and humidity.
We were met with the lovely sounds of the choral group “Chanticleer,” playing at a pleasant volume throughout the shop. The comfortable temperature of the room invited us in to admire the beauty of wooden walls and counters, topped with delicate terrariums.
Walking over to a set of remarkably clean yogurt machines, we were faced with the decisions of flavors and toppings. The four flavors to pick from were reasonably priced at $0.49 per ounce.
Of course, the extra-fun option was available to “twist” two of the flavors from the middle lever of the machine. The All Natural Classic Tart and Tropical Sorbet flavors looked delightful, but we could not get past the traditional Triple Chocolate and Tahitian Vanilla twist.
Once again as we approached the bar of over 30 toppings to browse, the deep-clean of the store continued to impress us. Choosing some flaked coconut and fresh blackberries to top our dish, it was time to grab an adorable wooden spoon and make our purchase.
A very gracious man assisted us with the order of two decently filled cups (which together weighed 14.4 oz., totaling $7.06 before tax) and then gently sat down as we turned to find our seats in the windowsill.
As Matt took his first bites of the yogurt, he noted aloud how creamy and wonderful the texture was. A surprising treat, the yogurt was not icy or watery in form, and the taste was honest, real, and vibrant. Just delicious.
While our 5-year-old son also dug into his candy-topped portion of yogurt with much enthusiasm, we decided it would be nice for one of us to try a smoothie from SwirlFrutti.
We put in our request to the man behind the counter for a medium Strawberry-Banana-Mango Smoothie, priced at $4.65.
Something spectacular that we noticed: instead of using a blender at the counter in front of us, he headed back behind a curtain to mix the smoothie, reducing the usually intrusive sound of an industrial blender. What a thoughtful way to preserve this peaceful environment.
In about a minute and a half, he came back holding a wonderfully pink smoothie with a straw in it the size of a Civil War cannon. I smiled and took my first sip.
I tasted milk, pure cane sugar, strawberries, bananas, and mangoes. No curious aftertaste, no additives–just pure and delicious. The large straw made it easier to enjoy some semi-large chunks of fruit that would usually cause a power-struggle between the consumer and the beverage.
We suggest you pick one of the remaining muggy summer days to stop by SwirlFrutti and find refreshment. The product is quality and the atmosphere of the place brightens the spirit. We highly recommend it.
