Visions For Vacancies: Blockbuster Video in Newtown

What would you like to see at the former Blockbuster Video site in Newtown Square?

Remember Blockbuster Video in Newtown Square?

The large building with its iconic blue roof on 3515 West Chester Pike in Newtown Square had served the Marple Newtown community throughout the years with their selection of thousands of movie and video game rentals.

But over the years, due to the changing technology, many Blockbuster stores have shut down, leaving far and few between for movie rental stores. According to MSN Money, only 1,000 Blockbuster stores remain of which 500 may close due to under-performing numbers.

Since its closure, no other business has taken over its spot. What remains is now an empty storefront situated next to the Wells Fargo and Newtown Beer & Soda.

Marple Newtown Patch wants to know what you would like to see at this former Blockbuster Video site.

These are almost all silly. There is not enough parking for a restaurant let alone a trader joes. Cheesecake Factory? Unless it is the smallest, least visting CF in the world, will never happen.

A Dunkin would work with drive through capability but the traffic signals could be problematic.

Unless a prospective restaurant buys and closes the beer store for parking, or negotaites with the beer store to redo the parking area, it will not be a high traffic establishment. The location requires quick, short visits...which is why a Verizon store, sadly, makes sense.
