Grandma and grandpa at the beach in 1917. My mother, now 101, is the twin on the left. Her sister Sally died seven years ago. A happy, long-lived family.

John and Marilyn McNicholas...long time residents of Wayne, before they became the best grandparents in the whole wide world...parents of 8 children and 8 grandchildren. We are so lucky to still have Grandmom with us...we all miss Grand dad each and EVERY day!!!!

John P. Hallahan, my maternal grandfather, faced and overcame significant challenges his entire life, building a renowned contracting business from nothing -- and then rebuilding it after FDR's bank closures wiped out his assets. He is shown here at one of his developments in Florida in the 1920s. He loved the outdoors, and was happiest when wading in a stream, fly rod in hand. He was a gentle soul with a brave heart and a deep love for his family and country.
