Each year, we celebrate the independence of our nation with fireworks, family picnics and great, American food. ACME’s registered dietitian Jennifer Shea has the perfect Fourth of July menu that will surely capture the American spirit. From juicy sliders to berries and cream, this tasty menu is sure to set off flavorful fireworks.
- Berry Sparkling Seltzer – Keep hydrated throughout the festivities with an easy, refreshing and patriotic beverage. Add sliced strawberries and whole blueberries to a pitcher of sparkling lemon seltzer and ice. Ladle the seltzer and fruit into plastic glasses and serve with a strawberry on the side of the glass as a garnish.
- Sizzlin' Sliders – Transform the classic American burger into bite-sized beefy delights. Form 90% lean hamburger into mini patties and grill to perfection. Add some “spark” to the adult version by topping with reduced-fat jalapeño cheddar. Place onto lightly grilled mini burger buns or mini bagels. Serve with crisp lettuce & sliced tomato.
- Watermelon & Mint Kabobs – Summertime’s favorite fruit is juicy, hot pink and oh so delicious. Watermelon is packed with Vitamins A and C, both of which are important for the health of your skin, especially on hot summer days. Slice and cube a watermelon. Alternate juicy cubes of watermelon and leaves of fresh mint on plastic straws.
- Patriotic Cake To-Go - Cut up store bought (or homemade) angel food cake into small cubes. Place on a skewer, intermixing several fresh raspberries and blueberries in between the cake pieces. Serve with a Greek yogurt dipping cream.
