A Cut Above Wins Above The Rest For Best Hoagie

A Cut Above Deli was Patch readers' choice as the place that makes the best hoagies in town.

We asked, you answered. A Cut above Deli is, in your opinion, the place that makes the best hoagies in the area. According to Patch's readers' choice voting system, Wawa Food Markets scored the highest in poll votes while A Cut Above Deli came in second. However, A Cut Above scored above Wawa in most directory reviews on their Patch Place Listing. The tie was broken with the number of comments praising which hoagie spot was their favorite.  It was a tight race but Marple Newtown Patch readers have spoken and A Cut Above Deli received the most praise in our poll. A Cut Above has been serving the Marple Newtown area since 1997 and serves all its specialty hoagies on Sarcone's bread from South Philly–the true Philly way. Check out our …

Crib Tents Sold At Walmart Recalled

Infants and toddlers are at risk of serious injury or death in the Tots in Mind tents.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is recalling crib tents and play yard tents made by Tots in Mind, Inc. According to CPSC, infants and toddlers are at risk of serious injury or death by  strangulation and entrapment caused by the products. There is a Walmart located in the Marple Crossroads Shopping Center. Tots in Mind recalled the play yard tents in July 2010 and offered a repair kit that is no longer available. Broomall McDonald's To Fully Reopen By June 15

The Broomall McDonald's will fully reopen its restaurant on June 15, according to an employee.

BROOMALL–Since late April to early May, the Broomall McDonald's has been alternating its service to its customers by offering dine-in only to its patrons then switching over to drive-thru only. The alternating service has been due to the restaurant's remodeling project as part of the chain's nationwide campaign in changing their image from their well-known image as a fast food restaurant to more of a "casual dining" restaurant. One of the big changes to the restaurant has already been constructed and currently being used: two side-by-side drive thru lanes, each with their own menu boards and speakers, to help with traffic flow off of Sproul Road. Though the dine-in portion of the restaurant is currently closed to the public, customers can …

From Terry Miller on our Facebook page: "Sure hope they do the Newtown Sq. one next. It really is run down. Loved the ones i found out in Pittsburgh, more like a starbuck, tall cafe tables, calming music, would love if they had put bagels back on the menu with cream cheese."   more ›

Daughter Hopes To Continue Mom's Salon Legacy

Joyce's Salon in Ardmore, run by Joyce Goldhahn, of Broomall, is now run by Joyce's daughter, also of Broomall, and has been in business since 1970.

ARDMORE–Tucked into an unassuming storefront on E. County Line Avenue in Ardmore is a small salon with a long history. Joyce's has been doling out cuts and colors for 42 years now, and some of the salon's clients have been coming for just as long, or longer. Joyce Goldhahn, of Broomall, the salon's original owner, worked side-by-side in the salon with her daughter, Kathy DiMario, also from Broomall, for 29 years before retiring in December of 2011. The pair met with Patch recently to talk about the salon's beginnings, their experience working together, and what the future holds. In 1970, Goldhahn was a single mom in her mid-20s, working at a hair salon in Philadelphia.  When her brother-in-law decided that year to sell his building at 2608…

Barn Behind Newtown Grill Slated For Demolition

The owners of the Newtown Grill confirmed at a Board of Supervisors meeting on May 14 that a demolition permit was submitted Monday morning for the historic barn after complaints made by neighbors in the Terrazza condominium complex.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Marco Tarrantino, co-owner of The Newtown Grill, addressed the public at Monday night's Board of Supervisors meeting that a demolition permit has been filed for the historic barn behind the restaurant after receiving complaints from the neighbors and a citation from the township. According to Township Manager Mike Trio, The Newtown Grill was cited for nuisance of maintaining the historic barn and the feral cats that the neighbors have seen inhabiting the property. A handful of neighbors from Terrazaa were present at the meeting to address their concerns about the dilapidated barn and the cats roaming their properties. Steve Schoenstatt, of Cornerstone Drive, addressed the supervisors of some of the issues over the old barn …

How about trapping and removing the mainline wanna be residents of Terrazzo. I think the barn has way more aesthetic appeal than their fake Italian condo complex.   more ›

Inflatable Slides Sold at Walmart Recalled After Reported Death

Roughly 21,000 inflatable slides will be recalled from Walmart and Toys 'R Us stores due to the death of a woman as well as reports of severe neck injuries.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Wal-Mart Stores Inc., of Bentonville, Ark. and Toys R Us Inc., of Wayne, NJ, are announcing the recall of about 21,000 inflatable Banzai in-ground pool water slides. During use, the slide can deflate, allowing the user to hit the ground underneath the slide and become injured. The slide is also unstable and can topple over in both still and windy conditions and carries inadequate warnings and instructions.
