On the heels of former Police Chief Dennis Anderson's resignation, Newtown Township welcomed new Police Chief Chris Lunn in town last month. Though he's been at the department since starting as a patrolman in December 1991, Lunn was unanimously promoted from sergeant to lieutenant by the Board of Supervisors in November 2011. More recently, he was promoted to acting chief after former chief Dennis Anderson's resignation back in November. NEWTOWN SQUARE–The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors announce Monday night the resignation of Newtown Police Chief Dennis Anderson. The township's insurance company and Anderson reached a $175,000 settlement agreement on the matter. Lt. Chris Lunn was also appointed Monday night as the acting police chief. NEWTOWN SQUARE–The saga between Newtown Police Chief Dennis Anderson and Newtown Township officially came to an end on Monday evening at a Board of Supervisors meeting. The supervisors unanimously accepted the resignation of Dennis Anderson at Monday's meeting and appointed Lt. Chris Lunn as the acting chief of the Newtown Township Police Department. "As many of you know, Chief Anderson has not been acting as chief for at least since May 22nd," said Supervisors Chairman Joseph Catania. NEWTOWN SQUARE–Newtown Township Supervisors Chairman Joe Catania confirmed through email on Sunday that an additional disciplinary letter has been issued to Newtown Township Police Chief Dennis Anderson after further investigation made by Township Manager Mike Trio. Trio informed Marple Newtown Patch on Monday that the disciplinary letter was a recommendation for termination. However, Trio explained that Anderson cannot be terminated until the Board of Supervisors take action on the recommendation. According to Trio, the letter was sent out late last week. NEWTOWN SQUARE–According to Newtown Township Manager Mike Trio, the previously rescheduled hearing on July 24th for Newtown Township Police Chief Dennis Anderson has been postponed indefinitely. According to Trio, on Monday, a new date has not yet been scheduled for the hearing. Anderson's status as police chief is currently in question.
