Book Sale Continues Thursday in Marple Newtown

  • Books: Newtown Library Book Sale from Aug. 20-24. 
  • Music: Boston singer/songwriter Annalise Emerick is the feature act at Burlap and Bean's open mic night at 7 p.m. on Aug. 22.
  • Vigil: The Delco United for Sensible Gun Policy will hold a candlelight vigil from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Baltimore Avenue and Providence Road in Media. The purpose of the vigil is to help build awareness and policy reforms, such as universal background checks, bans on assault weapons and high capacity magazines, and deterrents to illegal gun trafficking.
  • Traffic: Check on your commute on the PennDOT traffic cameras before you leave the house. But the traffic will likely be terrible—it's traffic.
  • Weather: The forecast calls for temperatures to reach mid-80s with scattered thunderstorms. Things are expected to cool down to the 60s in the evening with continued scattered thunderstorms.
  • History: Per the History Channel, on this day in 1992, Hurricane Andrew hit the Bahamas and in 1950 Althea Gibson became the first African-American on U.S. tennis tour.
