Combined Veterans Alliance Annual Picnic

The Marple Newtown Combined Veterans Alliance held its annual picnic last Saturday at Drexel Lodge Park. The Alliance is comprised of the three veterans organizations headquartered in Newtown Square and Broomall. They are: Gen. Smedley D. Butler Detachment No. 741 of the Marine Corps League in Newtown Square; American Legion Marple Memorial Post No. 805 in Broomall; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7390 in Broomall. Scheduled from 11:30 am to 4:00 pm, approximately 100 Alliance veterans and family members attended the picnic. In addition to the annual picnic, the Alliance provides a grave side Department of Defense certified Honor Guard for veteran's funeral services, averaging almost one per day in recent years. And each organization sponsors individual community events as well.
