Delaware County Human Services Agency Receives Free Diapers From Cradles to Crayons for Distribution to In-Need Infants

ChesPenn Health Services social worker Jashina Miller (right) flashes an approving smile as she prepares to leave the Cradles to Crayons warehouse in West Conshohocken with a share of the nearly 200,000 diapers distributed by the local nonprofit. Miller, joined in the photo by Cradles to Crayons' distribution coordinator Kristen Gowing, was among representatives of more than 75 area social service agencies to receive the free diapers.

The diapers were provided to Cradles to Crayons (www.cradlestocrayons.org) by the National Diaper Bank Network, through the support of its founding sponsor, Huggies.® Montgomery County-based Foundation for Babies assisted local distribution.

“Diapers are a basic need for children, as essential to their health and well-being as food and shelter,” said Michal Smith, executive director of Cradles to Crayons, noting that “diaper costs per month are estimated to be $100.00 and upwards – forcing an estimated one out of three American families to cut back on basics such as food, utilities and child care in order to purchase diapers for their children.

“There are some 100,000 children, 0 to 24 months, in our community who are living in poverty-stricken situations,” said Smith. “Every diaper we provide is so very vital to these children and their families.”
