Gen. Smedley D. Butler Marine Corps League Detachment Americanism Program at St. Anastasia School

The Americanism History team of the General Smedley D. Butler Detachment of the Marine Corps League regularly makes Americanism and Flag History presentations in local elementary schools, YMCAs, and Senior Centers.  On November 5, 2013, Marine Corps Leaguers Joe Conigliaro, Bernie McGinley, and Ceremonial Bugler Lloyd Spangler made a presentation at St. Anastasia School, West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA.  The presentation was made to St. Anastasia’s first grade class of which Marine Joe Conigliaro’s granddaughter is a member. The program includes the evolution of the American Flag, the history of the siege at Fort McHenry in Baltimore harbor, the history of Flag Day and history of the Pledge of Allegiance.  The program also included the playing of the bugle call Taps by Bugler Spangler.  At the end of the program the students were presented a small flag pin and a Flag Brochure and recited the Pledge of Allegiance together.
