Hillview’s Annual Dad’s Day and Thanksgiving Food Drive

The Pre-K students at Hillview Nursery School recently gave thanks to all of their dads by hosting their annual “Dad’s Day” event last Saturday. This event, held every November, allows the parents a glimpse into their child’s everyday school activities. Activities include circle time, message time, calendar concepts and crafts. This year’s craft was a special “Thanksgiving Turkey” made from leaves found in the school’s very own playground.

Lewis Checchia (pictured with daughter Emily) has attended “Dad’s Day” with all four of his children. Checchia states, “I can think of no better way to spend a Saturday morning than by spending it with my little girl and seeing how happy she is at school.”

The families of Hillview Nursery School are not only giving thanks to all the dads, but they are also showing their gratitude with an annual food drive. The Hillview Community has set out to help feed local families this Thanksgiving thru CityTeam.org, a non-profit organization serving the poor, homeless, and others in extreme poverty.

“Unfortunately, for many people, the holidays can be a painful time,” says Macaira Koch, a spokesperson and volunteer for CityTeam. “The homeless are often reminded that they are alone, and low-income families are unable to provide a Thanksgiving meal for their children.”

The school has collected nearly 80 cans of fruit that will help at least 40 families enjoy a Thanksgiving meal this season. “Your support of this food drive has helped so many,” says Koch, “and we are so grateful to Donna (Mugler) and the Hillview School!”
