Walk for the Wounded

Today, Operation First Response Walk for the Wounded  was held in Rose Tree Park, Media. Joe Conigliaro, a member of the Gen. Smedley D. Butler Detachment, Marine Corps League, was the Color Guard Chairman for the "Massing of Colors" of the Veterans Service Organizations, Cub Scouts, Young Marines, and the Boy Scouts.  His group led off the festivities by marching in while a local singer was performing "God Bless America".  This is the seventh year for "Operation First Response, Walk for the Wounded" at Rose Tree Park in Media.  There were several thousand citizens, veterans and families present and lots of dogs.  The Army and a few VSOs had a helicopter, retriever and other large pieces of equipment on site. From the Operation First Response website, its mission is described, "Operation First Response, Inc., supports our nation’s Wounded Heroes and their families with personal and financial needs. Services are provided from the onset of injury, throughout their recovery period and along their journey from military life into the civilian world. Financial aid varies as each case is based on individual needs ranging from rent, utilities, vehicle payments, groceries, clothing, and travel expenses."
