Lenten Collection Items

  • There will be a collection taken up at all the Masses on Ash Wednesday. The donations will go to Catholic Relief Services, which is the Catholic Church’s most visible expression of compassion for poor persons throughout our world.  The collection provides a way for each of us to begin Lent by participating in one of the traditional Lenten practices of almsgiving.

  • Evenings: Fridays at 7 p.m., Feb. 15, Feb. 22, March 1–Mary’s Way of the Cross; March 8, March 15–Stations for Peace; March 22–Living Stations

  • 7 p.m. in the church

Catholicism Series (Journey with Father Robert Barron around the world as he illustrates the splendor of the Catholic Church at 7 p.m., Parish School Cafeteria)

  • March 6: The Mystical Union of Christ and the Church

Lenten Simple Supper, March 15

  • 6 p.m. peace and pizza followed by Stations of the Cross at 7 p.m. in church. RSVP by March 14.

Lenten Parish Book Club

  • Finding Calcutta by Mary Poplin (published by Veritas Forum Books) Book club meets twice (Rectory basement): Feb. 21 at 9:45 a.m. or 7 p.m. and March 21 at 9:45 a.m. or 7 p.m. (RSVP by Feb. 20). Purchase the book in advance; there will be a few books available for purchase at the initial meeting.

Lenten Supper & Study, Feb. 13

  • Begins Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. in the Social Hall. Runs until 8 p.m. (childcare included). If you would like to join us, respond here and let us know if you need childcare. The study is "The Cup of Our Life," and looks at the cup as a metaphor for our life and journey with Christ. Led by Rev. Jeanne Thomas.

St. Marks United Methodist Church

Ash Wednesday, Feb. 13

  • 9 a.m. Ash Wednesday Breakfast–The Ellen Hoover Circle will host the breakfast.

Lenten Bible Study

  • The Marple Newtown Cooperative Ministries has decided not to continue the community Lenten suppers and services this year. Instead, St. Mark's will have a five-week Lenten Bible Study on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. The dates of the bible study are Feb. 20, Feb. 27, March 6, March 13, and March 20. The hour-long bible study will include a 30-minute DVD concerning the last days of Jesus followed by a discussion.

Donations

  • Consider donating to the Food Bank. February's items of need includ soup, apple juice, and pancake mix (add water only mix).
