Darby Paoli Road in Radnor Township will be closed indefinitely because of damage to the small bridge over Abrahams Run.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on Thursday morning closed Darby Paoli Road between Newtown Road and Brook Road in Radnor Township due to bridge damage.

During the closure, Darby Paoli Road through traffic will be detoured over St. Davids Road, Route 252, and Goshen Road. Local access will be maintained up to the closure point. Motorists should allow extra time when traveling through the area as backups will occur.

Darby Paoli Road, on the border of Newtown Township, will be closed indefinitely as PennDOT completes an environmental evaluation and designs plans to repair or replace the small bridge.

The one-span, stone arch bridge over Abrahams Run is six feet long and 25 feet wide. It carries 6,820 vehicles a day.

PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511PA.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major highways before heading out.
