Edible Books, Ladies Night, Yard Sales Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Marple Newtown Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of things happening this weekend. It's a weekend full of community events. Check out the creativity at the Edible Book Festival (don't forget to bring a fork), view some films at Media's Film Festival and shop until you drop at Ladies Night and multiple yard sales happening this weekend.

Edible Book Festival

  • When: Sunday, April 7 at 1 p.m.
  •  Where: Marple Public Library, Springfield and Sproul roads in Broomall
  • Why Go: Bring your fork and reading glasses as literature comes to the table at the 6th annual festival. Judges will select their favorites in the adult and juvenile categories and the public will vote for a People’s Choice winner.
  • Cost: Free

Ladies Night Out

  • When: Saturday, April 6 from 6 to 9 p.m.
  •  Where: Touch of Class Dance Studio, 483 Park Way in Broomall
  • Why Go: Enjoy shopping, wine, food, door prizes and raffles at this ladies night out.
  • Cost: $10

Multiple Garage and Yard Sales

  • When: Friday and Saturday, April 5 and 6
  • Where: Broomall and Newtown Square
  • Why Go: From 7 a.m. until noon on both Friday and Saturday head to the moving sale at 91 Aronimink Drive in Newtown Square, where you'll find furniture, china, paintings, lamps, holiday decorations and more. Then on Saturday, head to the 2600 blocks of Franklin and Harding avenues in Broomall for the multi-family sale, where you'll find baby items, clothes, books, toys and more.

Media Film Festival

  • When: Friday and Saturday, April 5 and 6 at 7 p.m.
  • Where: Media Borough City Government Offices, 301 N Jackson St. in Media
  • Why Go: Grab your popcorn and celebrate the best films from Everybody's Hometown and all over the country at this two-day movie fest. Find out.
  • Cost: $10

20th Annual Tyler Arboretum 10K Trail Run

  • When: Saturday, April 6 at 9 a.m., rain or shine
  • Where: Tyler Arboretum, 515 Painter Road in Media
  • Why Go: Runners will face a flat half-mile sprint from behind the Tyler barn to the first set of hills, and then around the arboretum and back to the finish line in this 10-kilometer course, known to be both fast and challenging.
  • Cost: $30 pre-registration, $35 day of

Linvilla Orchards 9th Annual Fishing Derby

  • When: Saturday, April 6 at 9 a.m.
  • Where: Linvilla Orchards, 137 W. Knowlton Road in Media
  • Why Go: Take your first family fishing trip right in town. Orchard Lake will be stocked with more than 1,000 trout. The lucky anglers who catch the first tagged trout in their age groups (under 7, 8-11, 12-16, 17 and over) will receive a special trophy. No fishing experience or fishing licenses required and fishing rods and bait will be available.
