Last Chance: Jr. Football & Cheer Sign-Ups, Turn Off TV, Mother's Day Contest, Concert in the Park

We've seen hundreds of events come and go in the community, but how often does one pass you by that you wish you hadn't missed out on? That's where we come in. Each week Marple Newtown Patch will post a quick reminder about the events, activities or important tasks whose deadlines have come.

When: Monday, May 7, from 6-9 p.m., and Wednesday, May 9, from 6-9 p.m.

What: Save the date–sign-ups for fall youth football cheerleading and flag football are this week. Jr. Football is for children ages 5-15, Jr. Cheerleading is for children ages 5-14. All who sign up will receive a Marple Jr. Tigers t-shirt. Practices start Aug. 6.

Cost: $90

When: Thursday, May 10, at 6 p.m.

What: Kids are invited to bring in up to five books that they wish to "swap." For each book brought in, they will receive one "Book Buck," which can be redeemed for a “new” gently used book. Please bring in “gently read” books in good or excellent condition. The event is in partnership with the . Free DVD rental at either Newtown or Marple libraries for parents of kids that sign up for a library card.

When: Friday, May 11, at 9 a.m.

What: Don't forget to submit your favorite memory or words of praise of mom by 9 a.m. Friday to be considered in our $500 giveway for the best story received.

CONCERT IN THE PARK

When: Saturday, May 12, at 5 p.m.

What: Save the date to help support the Marple Newtown School District's music programs. This is a district-wide concert featuring performances from the district's Elementary Band; Middle School Concert Band, Jazz Band and Orchestra; High School Choir, Indoor Color Guard, Jazz Band, Orchestra and Concert Band.

Cost: Free for admission; food and refreshments available for purchase.
