Lemonade Stand, Tree Houses Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Marple Newtown Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of things happening this weekend. It's a weekend full of community and summer events. What better ways to celebrate summer then by climbing a tree at Tyler Arboretum and drinking lemonade for Alex's Lemonade Stand. If you want to beat the heat, check out The Avengers at the Middletown Library or the live music a Tavola in Springfield.

Alex's Lemonade Stand

  • When: Wednesday, July 17 from 4 to 7 p.m.
  • Where: The Malvern School, 4731 West Chester Pike in Newtown Square 
  • Why Go: Come out and quench your thirst with some delicious lemonade for a good cause and enjoy a moon bounce and raffles, too. This event is open to the public. 

Tree House Festival

  • When: Sunday, July 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine
  • Where: Tyler Arboretum, 515 Painter Rd in Media
  • Why Go: Celebrate trees by climbing a tree using ropes and harness under professional arborists supervision. Check out a carving demonstrations and watch the raptor show featuring a variety of hawks and falcons that you can see up close. 
  • Cost: Free with admission

Spotlight Theatre's The House of Bernarda Alba

  • When: Thursday, July 18 at 8 p.m.
  • Where: Spotlight Theatre, 129 Park Avenue in Swarthmore
  • Why Go: Spotlight Theatre opens its 73rd season with Frederico Garcia Lorca’s The House of Bernarda Alba, directed by Thomas-Robert Irvin. The story about a tyrannical matriarch who announces to her five daughters after her second husband dies that their period of mourning is to last for eight years.

Movies at Middletown Library

  • When: Friday, July 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Where: Middletown Free Library, 21 N Pennell Rd in Lima
  • Why Go: Check out superhero Friday with The Avengers, rated PG-13. 
  • Cost: All ages welcome but sign-up's required. 
Visit the Veterans Museum
  • When: Wednesday, July 17, from 5 to 9 p.m.
  • Where: Pennsylvania Veterans Museum (in front of Trader Joe's), 12 E. State Street in Media
  • Why Go: Stroll over to this museum after Dining Under the Stars where a veteran will personally guide you through the WWI and WWII displays and memorabilia. Watch a short film that will transport you to the front lines or try on a parachute at the paratroopers’ exhibit.
  • Cost: Free
PSU Brandywine Tour and BBQ
  • When: Thursday, July 18, at 5:30 p.m.
  • Where: Penn State Brandywine, 25 Yearsley Mill Road in Media
  • Why Go: Prospective Penn Staters and families are invited to the campus for an information session. Take a tour of the campus and hear from current students about their experiences at Penn State. Then head over to the campus lawn for live music, food and a movie. 
  • Cost: Free

Live Music at Tavola

  • When: Friday, July 19 at 8 p.m. 
  • Where: Tavola Restaurant and Bar, 400 W. Sproul Rd in Springfield
  • Why Go: Check out this Friday's feature live music with Tom Curtis Jr.
  • Cost: Free
