Memorial Day Parades, Line Dancing Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Marple and Newtown. See what's going on.

There are lots of things happening this holiday weekend. It's a weekend full of parades to honor the veterans who we have lost. If you aren't headed to the shore this weekend, wave your flags on the parade route, take a night hike or go line dancing, on this unofficial start to summer.

Marple Township Memorial Day Parade

Find out what's happening in Marple Newtownwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  • When: Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m.
  • Where: The route will kick off at Malin Road and West Chester Pike in Broomall
  • Why Go: The American Legion Marple Memorial Post 805 will honor veterans in this annual parade. Enjoy fire trucks, bands, boy scouts and color guard.
  • Cost: Free

Media's Memorial Day Parade

  • When: Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m.
  • Where: Downtown Media. The route will run down State Street from Edgmont Streets, right on Orange Street and right onto Front Street. (In case of rain, a ceremony will be held at Media Theatre instead).
  • Why Go: Support our veterans and honor those veterans we have lost. Enjoy antique cars, fire trucks, bands and more.
  • Cost: Free

Line Dancing

  • When: Thursdays at 11 a.m.
  • Where: Trinity Christian Reformed Church, 144 Lawrence Rd, Broomall
  • Why Go: Hosted by Surrey Services for Seniors, this group of active older adults are learning the steps that make line dancing fun. Newcomers are always welcome.
  • Cost: $4

Night Hike 

  • When: Saturday, May 25, at 7:30 p.m.
  • Where: Tyler Arboretum, 515 Painter Rd, Media
  • Why Go: Enjoy night sounds and watch for nocturnal creatures; there are lots of interesting things going on at night that you can’t experience in the daytime. The walk is suitable for adults and teens. Remember to bring a flashlight and wear shoes suitable for uneven terrain.
  • Cost: $6 members, $8 non-members. Pre-registration is required.

Pride and Prejudice

  • When: Multiple showings through June 16 
  • Where: Hedgerow Theatre, 64 Rose Valley Rd in Media
  • Why Go: Check out this Jane Austen classic that captures all of the wit and romance in the brilliant comic novelist’s commentary of 19th-century British mating rituals.
  • Cost: $32
