Memorials, Funeral Set for Christian Massey

Christian Massey, a graduate of Marple Newtown High School who was shot and killed in Philadelphia for his headphones, will be remembered this week.

A viewing and funeral will take place on Monday for Christian Massey, a graduate of Marple Newtown High School who was shot and killed in Philadelphia over his headphones.

The viewing will run from 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday at Hickman Temple A.M.E. Church, on Baltimore Avenue near 50th Street in Philadelphia, the funeral will immediately follow, according to philly.com

Massey, 21, who was a special needs student, played football, lacrosse and basketball at Marple Newtown High School and also participated in the Special Olympics. 

He will be remember at Marple Newtown High School and Don Guanella Village, where he also attended, this week. 

On Wednesday, the Don Guanella Village family will hold a memorial service for Massey at 7 p.m. in the Cardinal Krol Center gym, 1799 S. Sproul Road in Springfield.

On Friday, Massey will be honored with a moment of silence at the boy's basketball home opener at Marple Newtown High School at 7:30 p.m. 

Donations, Scholarship

Marple Newtown High School has also created a scholarship in Massey's name.

The Christian Massey Award will be an annual award that is presented to a senior who exhibits the qualities that Massey demonstrated during his time at the school.

The school district asks that you please do not send cash or checks for a Special Olympics donation to the high school or school district. 

Investigation Continues

Philadelphia police continue to search for Massey's killer, but residents in the Overbrook section of Philadelphia where he was shot, are not cooperating with police, according to philly.com.

Police are offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in Massey's shooting death, according to philly.com.

Massey's killing was one of 228, so far this year in Philadelphia.
