Newtown Square Day, Opera, Picnic Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Marple Newtown Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of things happening this weekend. It's a weekend full of different events. Check the 18th Annual Historic Newtown Square Day to have fun while learning about the past and present history of your town. Have you ever watch an Opera before? Well wander over to the Media Theatre where one will be performing this week. Or take a cooking workshop or check out a community picnic or family fun fair.

Historic Newtown Square Day

  • When: Saturday, June 1, from noon to 4 p.m.
  • Where: The Square Tavern, 3700 Goshen Rd. in Newtown Square
  • Why Go: Celebrate the past and present with hands-on history and guided tours of historic private homes. Enjoy live music, crafts, games and food. This fundraiser supports the Newtown Square Historic Society.
  • Cost: $6

Jago: Opera in Two Acts

  • When: Three nights only, May 30, 31 and June 1 at 8 p.m.
  • Where: Media Theatre, 104 E. State St. in Media
  • Why Go: Jago is a story of redemption, following the character of Iago from Othello 15 years after the play's ending. The opera focuses on the relationship between Iago and a young boy on the day before Iago's execution. Jago's lead soprano, Sharon Zhai, is a resident of Milan who was born in China.
  • Cost: $49

Community Picnic

  • Where: Newtown Square Presbyterian Church, 3600 Goshen Rd. in Newtown Square
  • Why Go: Fun for the whole family with a moon bounce, Kona ice truck, hot dog bar and games.
  • Cost: Free

Family Fun Fair

  • When: Sunday, June 2, at 10 a.m.
  • Where:Temple Sholom in Broomall, 55 Church Ln. in Broomall
  • Why Go: Have fun with face painting, "Musical Mommy," zumba, a balloonist and a bake sale.
  • Cost: $10

Spring Hearth Cooking Class

  • When: Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Where: Ridley Creek State Park, E Bishop Hollow Rd & Chapel Hill Rd, Media
  • Why Go: Bake bread and make a seasonal soup. Enjoy a dinner of savoury pie with baked and boiled puddings that you help to make.
  • Cost: $40

Fair Acres Fair

  • When: Wednesday, June 5, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Where:Fair Acres, 340 N. Middletown Road in Media
  • Why Go: Along with food, fun and raffles, the Fair Acres Office of Volunteer Services will hold an Attic Treasures sale to raise funds to support resident activities.
  • Cost: Free
