Walk for Wounded, Relay for Life Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

It's a busy week and weekend in and around Media Patch. See what's going on.

There are lots of things happening this weekend. It's a weekend full of community events. Walk for the Wounded, Relay for Life and Bike to Work Day are all great community events with a great cause. Plus a yard sale and recycling event. Who could ask for a better weekend?

Walk for the Wounded

  • When: Saturday, May 18, at 11 a.m., rain or shine
  • Where: Rose Tree Park, W Rose Tree Rd & N Providence Rd, Upper Providence
  • Why Go: Walk two miles to help wounded soldiers and their families and enjoy some mini golf, helicopters, moon bounce, games, military vehicles, food, and more. Donate and change lives.
  • Cost: Free

Electronics Recycle Event

  • When: Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Where: West Chester Pike and N. Malin Rd in Broomall
  • Why Go: Anything with a plug will be accepted and recycled, except large appliances, smoke detectors, and rear-projection TVs. All materials collected will be recycled in an environmentally friendly manner and all media data that is collected is destroyed.
  • Cost: Free

Brandywine Valley Craft Brewers’ Festival.

  • When: Saturday, May 18, from 1 to 5 p.m., rain or shine
  • Where: Iron Hill Brewery, 30 E. State Street in Media
  • Why Go: The 13th annual festival showcases the latest offerings from more than 25 regional breweries, with all proceeds donated to Media Youth Center. Taste beer and enjoy live music and food.
  • Cost: $45/person in advance, $50 at the door, $5 designated driver tickets. Tickets available online at www.ironhillbrewery.com. This event often sells out early.

Relay for Life 

  • When: Friday, May 17-18, starting at 6 p.m.
  • Where: Penncrest High School, 134 Barren Road, Media
  • Why Go: Relay For Life is an overnight community event to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember those we have lost, and empower individuals and communities to fight back against the disease. Teams "camp out" and take turns circling the track for 17 hours, demonstrating their commitment to creating a world with less cancer. The event is filled with music, special guests, entertainment and lots of activities for all to enjoy.
  • Cost: Free

Bike to Work Day

  • When: Friday, May 17, at 8:30 a.m.
  • Where: Delaware County Courthouse, 201 W Front St, Media, PA |
  • Why Go: Be healthy, save money on gas and help the environment by biking to work. Meet on the grounds of the Courthouse for a morning celebration with special treats and raffle prizes.
  • Cost: Free

Yard Sale by Valley Forge Chorus

  • When: Saturday, May 18, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Where: Saint Alban's Episcopal Church, 3625 Chapel Road, Newtown Square
  • Why Go: Find plenty of hidden treasures at this yard sale.
  • Cost: Varies

Linvilla's Antique Car Show and Flea Market

  • When: Sunday, May 19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine
  •  Where: Linvilla Orchards, 137 W. Knowlton Road, Media
  • Why Go: A variety of classic antique cars and Linvilla's co-sponsor, the Historical Car Club of Pennsylvania, will be awarding prizes to cars in 25 vehicle classes. Plus, hayrides, train rides, face painting and a flea market makes it a fun day for the whole family.
  • Cost: Free
