In 2003 Drew moved into the DC area after living in Cleveland, Ohio, for a few years. Soon after arriving in the DC area it took a little while for Gibson’s music to be heard. After a few years of bouncing around songwriter circles and playing various venues, Drew was introduced to local music producer, Marco Delmar. Delmar gave a listen to a 4-track demo recording, loved what he heard, and ended up producing Gibson’s debut album.

The album, Letterbox, was finished in 2007 and upon its release the self-taught guitar player started to get some attention. “With art, the awards and competitions are not something I’m really working towards. But if they want to get in the car along this journey, I’ll gladly give them a ride,” laughs Gibson. In 2008 The Washington Area Music Association nominated Letterbox for Best Debut Album and Drew was nominated for Best New Artist. In addition, Letterbox was recognized by Indie Acoustic in Boulder, Colorado, as one of the best albums of 2007, and the Just Plain Folks International Music Awards, which are held in Nashville, Tennessee, nominated Drew for Best Male Singer/Songwriter in 2009.

Lauded for his guitar finger-picking ability reminiscent of the blues greats Mississippi John Hurt and Gary Davis, as well as his heartfelt lyrical and songwriting style, Gibson definitely turned some heads with his first album. In December of 2011, Gibson released his follow up to Letterbox. The album, entitled The Southern Draw, was slowly crafted over a period of four years. Produced by longtime friend and musician, Paul Curreri, The Southern Draw, was recorded entirely in Charlottesville, Virginia, mostly in Curreri’s home studio.
