Burlap and Bean: Irene Molloy and Ryan Tennis

An evening with Irene Molloy and Ryan Tennis.
A special double feature.

Irene grew up in Philadelphia, belting out show tunes in school plays and church in hymns on Sunday. After catching the ear of Andrew Lloyd Webber, doors began to open for her quickly in show business. By 18, she had been a soloist on many famous stages including Philly's Academy of Music, Broadway's St. James Theatre, and London's Palladium. In the next few years, she starred in the musical Civil War, and on the small screen (in Darren Starr's Grosse Pointe and FOX's Andy Richter...). She has recently returned to Philadelphia to debut her first album of original songs. To listen to samples, visit www.reverbnation.com/irenemolloy

The charming authenticity of Ryan Tennis' soft-on-the-soul sound leaves the listener with the comfortable feeling of time spent with an old friend. His singable melodies and disarming lyrics have drawn comparisons with Paul Simon, James Taylor and Amos Lee. In 2008 Tennis packed up his guitar and took to the road, touring for five months in Australia, Thailand, Bangladesh and Laos. He played popular clubs in Melbourne, ex-pat bars in Bangkok, and wowed a crowd of 2,000 Bangladeshi villagers at a Women's Rights Initiative in Dhaka. A month after returning to the US he moved from San Diego back to his home town of Philadelphia, where he began delving into funk/soul classics like Stevie Wonder and Bill Withers, joining in organic jams and performances on the eclectic Philadelphia music scene, and rediscovering the power of groove.
