From Memorial Day Parade, Singles Dance to Devon Horse Show and Fireworks and Fountains

Celebrate the three-day weekend by getting out for some fun local events.

Take advantage of the long weekend and head out for a parade, a fireworks and fountains show or the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair. Or try something a little different this week and check out the cha cha instruction at Edgmont Country Club or the Fiddler on the Roof sing-along (in costume). See all of Patch's best bets for the week of May 25-31 below.


Patch's Best Bets for the Week

Where/When: The parade starts at Malin Road and West Chester Pike in Broomall at 10 a.m. on Monday and heads east along West Chester Pike, ending at Glenwood Memorial Gardens.
Why Go: Pick your spot along West Chester Pike and bring your flag to wave as you enjoy the parade and join the community in honoring our past and present veterans. In addition to featuring Color Guard Units from the American Legion Post 805, VFW 7390, and the General Smedley D. Butler Detachment 741 Marine Corps League, the parade will also include Band, Band, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, public officials, fire companies and Ambulance Corps. from Broomall and Newtown Square.

CHA CHA DANCE INSTRUCTION AND SINGLES DANCE

Where/When: Edgmont Country Club at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Why Go: Mingle and socialize in the elegant country club ballroom. Please wear proper attire: jacket and tie are optional, no jeans or sneakers. Feel free to drop in. No partner is necessary.
Pricing: $15 members; $20 guests (includes one-hour lesson by Lee and dance at 8 p.m.).


FREE MAKE-AND-TAKE CRAFTS

Where/When:  from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Monday.
Why Go: Banish afternoon boredom with a ready-to-go craft project at A.C. Moore. On Saturday, create an original artistic masterpiece in time for Father's Day, and on Monday, create a patriotic work of art in red, white and blue with Crayola Model Magic.

THE DEVON HORSE SHOW AND COUNTRY FAIR

Where/When: Devon Horse Show Grounds beginning Thursday and continuing through June 5. Gates open daily around 8 a.m. and close around 10 p.m.
Why Go: Take part in a Main Line tradition as well as the oldest and largest outdoor multi-breed competition in the United States. The Country Fair portion of the horse show includes delicious concessions, lots of vendor booths, an art gallery and a giant Midway featuring a Ferris wheel, carousel and game booths for all ages. Don't miss the Devon Doggie Parade at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Pricing: Tickets range from $5 to $8. On Thursday, children 12 and under receive free admission.


FIDDLER ON THE ROOF SING-ALONG

Where/When: Bryn Mawr Film Institute at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Why Go: Sing along with Tevye and the rest of the shtetl at this screening of the beloved musical about a Jewish family dealing with changing political and cultural times in turn-of-the-century Russia. Lyric sheets will be provided for patrons. Get free popcorn if you attend in costume.
Pricing: $5 members, $10 non-members, $7 seniors/students


EBONY & IVORY

Where/When:  from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday.
Why Go: Relax into the cocktail lounge vibe and linger over drinks and above-average bar menu fare as this talented duo performs old standards and new favorites well into the night. Stop in for the perfect end to a night out or a long week at the office.

FIREWORKS AND FOUNTAINS

Where/WhenLongwood Gardens at 9:15 p.m. on Sunday.
Why Go: Get ready for an evening of "oohs" and "ahhs," as Longwood presents a spectacular fireworks and fountains show guaranteed to make the evening memorable. In this performance, fountains and fireworks dance to American music classics featuring Leroy Anderson’s most loved works, including Blue Tango, The Syncopated Clock, Promenade, Sleigh Ride and their fantastic finale Home Stretch. Bring a light-weight folding chair or rent one for $5 while supplies last, as blankets will not be permitted.
Pricing: Ages 16 & over: $38 (members $31); ages 15 & under: $22 (members $18).
