Valentine's Movie Night, Jammin' with Java and Downtown Arts Stroll

Check out these suggestions for things to do this Valentine's weekend in the Marple Newtown Patch area.

It’s Thursday, and the pressure is on to figure out what to do this Valentine’s weekend. Allow Patch to come to the rescue. There are plenty of fun things going on all weekend long to keep you and your loved ones busy. 

1. Movie Night

Where/When: Regal Edgemont Square 10, all weekend (check website for titles and showtimes)

Why Go: Taking a date to the movies is usually a safe bet. There’s something for every taste playing this weekend at Regal, including action, drama, animated, comedy flicks, and more. A few new movies come out Friday, including romantic comedy Just Go With It, plus the animated film, Gnomeo and Juliet in 3-D.

Pricing: Adults, $11; Children, $8 (Add a few dollars for the 3-D movies, and save a few bucks if you go before 3 p.m.)

2. Jammin’ with Java

Where/When: , Friday, Feb. 11 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12 at 8 and 10 p.m.

Why Go: Burlap & Bean is an enjoyable spot to bring a date for a great cup of coffee, casual conversation and relaxing tunes. Ben Arnold, who has toured the U.S. and Europe, will take the stage Friday night, and Liz Longley will perform Saturday. 

Pricing: Friday, $12 in advance and $15 at the door; Saturday, $12 cover

3. Pizza and Game Night

Where/When: , Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Why Go: After a long, hard week of work and school, why not dive into a pizza pie and an evening full of fun games with family and friends? 

Pricing: $5 per family (pre-registration suggested)

4. 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll

Where/When: Downtown Media, Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Why Go: It’s the perfect way to spend a date or a night out with family this Valentine’s weekend. Grab a bite to eat at one of Media’s many restaurants, while enjoying the art, live music and evening shopping along State Street. Check out M.A.C.’s website for a map and full rundown of events, which include Tango dancing and an eco-friendly Valentine celebration.

Pricing: That’s the best part. The Arts Stroll is free. You can’t beat live music and unique artwork at no cost.

5. Winter Book Sale

Where/When: The Granite Run Mall, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Why Go: If you’re not in the mood for a big day or night out this Valentine’s weekend, curl up with a good book, for less. Used and new-condition books will be on sale. Hardbacks will go for as little as a buck. Proceeds benefit the Middletown Free Library.

Pricing: Prices will vary, but hardbacks are available for $1.00 and paperbacks for $0.50.
