16,100 Pounds of Paper Shredded at Shred Event

Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union recently released their results of their annual Shred Event that occurred on May 12 in Broomall.

BROOMALL–The Broomall Branch of (FMFCU) recently held its annual free Shred Event in May in an effort to preserve the environment and help prevent identity theft.

During the three-hour, Saturday morning event, Wiggins Shredding of West Chester destroyed 16,100 pounds of confidential material and securely shredded over eight tons of paper.

“As a result, 137 trees were preserved, representing a 64 percent energy savings, 58 percent water savings and 74 percent less air pollution,” said John T. Powers, FMFCU Vice President/Chief Retail Officer. “Participants should feel a sense of accomplishment for their efforts.”

Representatives from and Liberty Mutual Insurance attended providing special discounts, showcasing cars through a virtual car sale and answering insurance questions, respectively.

During the event, funds were also collected to support financial literacy efforts of the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union Foundation.
