American Idol on Stage, Kids’ Shakespeare & Bingo Night

Check out these picks for things to do this weekend in the Marple Newtown Patch area.

It’s Thursday, so it’s time to think about the weekend plans. Check out a former American Idol contestant from our area perform. Enjoy a magical musical adaptation of Shakespeare. Play some bingo for a good cause. There’s plenty for everyone, so let Marple Newtown patch throw a few ideas out there.  

1. American Idol on Stage                                               

Where/When: , Fri., March 18 at 8 p.m.

Why Go: Kenny Hoffpauer, of Havertown, took part in the eighth season of FOX’s popular reality show. After his elimination, he teamed up with two bands, and has been working on a record that includes a song given to him by Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora. Casey Cattie will open for Hoffpauer.

2. Kidsummer Night’s Dream

Where/When: Swarthmore United Methodist Church; Fri., March 18, and Sat., March 19, at 7 p.m., and Sun., March 20, at 2 p.m.

Why Go: Performed by , it’s a modern-day musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Full of mischief and mayhem, misunderstanding and magic potion mix-ups, the show is enjoyed by children of all ages.

Pricing: $7 general admission; $6 on Friday night if you buy four or more

3. Cherry Blossom Festival

Where/When: Newtown Public Library; Sun., March 20, from 2 to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Celebrate the Cherry Blossom Festival while learning some origami art. Hear some stories from Japan. Best for ages six and up.

Price: Free

4. Bingo Night

Where/When: ; Sat., March 19, from 5 to 9 p.m.

Why Go: Bingo is fun and the event is for a great cause. You can play up to 20 games, and help raise money for the library. Pizza and soda will be served.

Price: $20

5. Candlelit Auction for Young Leaders

Where/When: ; Sat., March 19, at 5:30 p.m.

Why Go: You’ll be supporting the Youth Mission and Scholarship Fund, which will send 10 youth and four adult leaders to the Appalachia Service Project. Silent and live auction items include golf outings, a week at the shore and a hot air balloon ride. Hors d’oeuvres will be served, and a wine bar hosted by Chaddsford Winery. Guests will be treated to pianist Bill Meehan.

Price: Adults $20, Children (12 and under) $15
