Businesses that Closed, Opened in 2013 in Marple, Newtown

Several local businesses shut their doors this past year. But a few others brought new business to the area.

Several businesses closed their doors in 2013, but even more opened new businesses. Both brought changes to the Marple and Newtown areas.

Below are some of the businesses in Marple Newtown Patch that closed (and opened) this year.

A new Panera Bread location opened in Newtown Square in October.

Lawrence Park Shopping Center in Broomall saw some changes this year. Saladworks relocated in July to the former Lee Garden location after Lee Garden closed in May. Then a Qdoba opened in September at the former Saladworks location. And the Dress Barn closed late in the summer.

Casale Restaurant on Newtown Street Road closed in June.

A new Giant Supermarket opened on West Chester Pike in Newtown Square in November.

Mackey's Pharmacy closed in July after more than 60 years of service to the community and a new Rite Aid opened in October right down the Pike.

And still to come, Jake's Wayback Burgers is expected to open very soon, maybe even before the new year, but we'll have to wait and see.
