Casale Restaurant Closes Its Doors

The former Newtown Grill, which became Casale less than a year ago, is also now closed.

Casale Restaurant on Newtown Street Road in Newtown Township has closed its doors.

However, the restaurant will remain open until June 30 in order to honor any previously scheduled functions, according to Casale co-owner Marco Tarantino.

Casale, which transformed from Newtown Grill in September 2012, was expected to be officially closed to the public as of May 1. However, it appeared the restaurant may have been closed for some weeks prior.

Newtown Township Manager Michael Trio said the restaurant would be turning over to a new owner on May 1 and the current tenants have shut their doors.

In September, Tarantino said the restaurant has changed its name and concept every six years or so. And for 2012, it was no different. "It's due for a change," Tarantino told Patch in September.

In 1994, according to the restaurant, the Friedel family sold the then-Newtown Squire, a landmark restaurant for almost 35 years to Alberto Guadagnini who changed it into a classic Italian restaurant: Alberto’s Newtown Squire.

Alberto's partners, Marco Tarantino and Alfredo Giannaccari, purchased the property and restaurant from their senior partner. And, since then, the restaurant has undergone a few name changes, including Alberto's Italian Steakhouse, then The Newtown Grill in 2007.
