Jake's Wayback Burgers Expected to Open in Several Weeks

The new restaurant will open next to Burlap and Bean in Newtown Square.

Newtown Square's newest burger place is expected to open in several weeks.

Jake's Wayback Burgers will be located next to Burlap and Bean on S. Newtown Street Road.

Franchise owner Ted Werstler, of West Chester, said he has always loved Jake's concept and food and wanted to open his own location.

"I always had an interested in the food business," Werstler said.

Jake’s Wayback Burgers offers hand-made burgers and hand-dipped milkshakes, using fresh milk and hand-dipped ice cream. But Jake's isn't just about burgers, they also offer crispy and grilled chicken sandwiches, veggie burgers, turkey burgers, hot dogs, salads and house-made chips. See more from their menu here.

Werstler, who has worked at Boeing for 23 years and has no plans to quit his day job, has hired a manager who will run the day-to-day operations at Jake's. Werstler's wife Margaret, his daughter and nephew will also be involved with the restaurant.

The space, which has sat vacant for several years, is currently undergoing extensive renovations, he said, including new flooring, bathrooms, lighting, plumbing, walls and refrigeration.

"I thought it would make a nice location and we would do well there," Werstler said.

Construction has been going on for about two months and Jake's is expected to open in about four or five weeks, Gillian Maffeo, Jake's director of marketing, said.

Jake's is currently hiring for all positions. If you're interested in hearing more about employment opportunities, contact Werstler at tjwerstler61@aim.com.
