Newtown's Meineke Tells BIG What They Think of Billboards

Meineke in Newtown Square has posted a sign in front of their store stating they're against the proposed billboards.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–, one of the three proposed locations for Bartkowski Investment Group's (BIG) billboards in , is showing their stance on the billboards issue: they're "absolutely" against them.

The sign was posted a few weeks ago and hangs below the Meineke sign in front of the store, displaying their stance loud and clear to cars passing by along West Chester Pike/Route 3.

One of the main reasons the auto body shop has publicly taken a stance against the billboards issue is that "we don't want people to think we're for the billboards just because they [BIG] want to put a billboard here; we don't want people to boycott us," said Ken Barycki, manager of the shop.

According to Barycki, the owner of the shop does not own the property at their location, and the billboard proposed for their site is an issue they are proudly against. But it's not just the aesthetics of the billboards they're against.

Barycki said, "Besides aesthetics, we have a fear of school children who cross the street and vehicle traffic as well."

So, how long will their no billboards sign stay up? "Indefinitely. Until it rots away," said Barycki.

The proposed location for the three billboards in Newtown have been designated between Media Line Road and just before St. Albans Circle off of Route 3. The three locations of the billboards include Meineke at 3105 West Chester Pike; Newtown Hair Styling at 3513 West Chester Pike; and at 3545 West Chester Pike.

The next scheduled billboard hearing with BIG and Newtown's Zoning Hearing Board is scheduled on Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
