Plato's Closet in Broomall Now Open For Business

Plato's Closet held a soft opening last week in the Lawrence Park Shopping Center.

BROOMALL–Plato's Closet in Broomall is officially open for business. The consignment shop held a soft opening last week and adjusted to their new home in the Lawrence Park Shopping Center.

The store relocated from its original spot in the Springfield Shopping Center on West Sproul Road for the larger space in Lawrence Park Shopping Center.

"We were literally bursting at the seams at the last location," said CJ Johnson, franchise operator and general manager of the store. "The only criticism we got from our customers was that the store was too small and it seemed cramped."

Despite an intense two-day move, Johnson–who also operates another Plato's Closet location in Montgomeryville–was optimistic with the new location.

"The Springfield community really embraced our concept, and elevated the demand for off-price, affordable product at our former location. That's why we're beyond thrilled to open our doors just right down the street in Broomall," said Johnson. "The new store is nearly twice as large with all the familiar staff faces that made the Springfield store successful for several years."

The Springfield Plato's Closet had a strong following and many of the customers had already followed the store to its new location in Broomall. Johnson noted that their loyal customers from Springfield have already stopped by. But new customers have been dropping in every day, according to Johnson.

What makes Plato's Closet special, according to Johnson, "Plato's Closet is not your typical second-hand clothing store. We are a fashion-forward, trendy retailer that allows customers to find all their favorite brands and styles at huge discounts all under one roof. "

Johnson also tipped Patch off that more highly desirable luxury brands, priced at deeply low prices, will also be released soon at the store.

"Second-hand shopping is one of the hottest prevailing trends among our current teen and young adult generations," said Johnson. "The satisfaction of finding exactly what you want at affordable prices will have you wondering why you shopped anywhere else but Plato's Closet."

Save the Date: Grand Opening Nov. 10

The store will hold an official grand opening on Nov. 10, Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The first 50 customers will receive a $10 coupon with one or two random customers receiving a coupon of more than $50 off.

The grand opening will include music, food, shopping, and more prizes.

What Makes Them Stand Out From Other Plato's Closet Stores

According to Johnson, the Broomall location offers daily deals. From cash-back rewards, to college and student discount days, it's hard not to get a deal at the store.

In addition, Johnson works with a private t-shirt company that creates custom Philly t-shirts. The private t-shirt company creates their own original designs and currently only sells them in three locations, one being Plato's Closet in Broomall. The t-shirts are in unisex sizes.

What They're Looking For From Consigners

Though they have a large selection of women's clothing, the store also sells men's clothing and is looking for men's items. The store also welcomes clothing from all seasons, all year long. Check with the store for specifics on selling back clothes.
