Wayne Bakery to Set Up Second Shop in Newtown Square

The Newtown Zoning Hearing Board approved Wayne's Great Harvest Bread Co. to set up their second location in Newtown Square.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The unanimously approved the application of a local bakery in Wayne to set up their second shop in Newtown Square at their last hearing on Feb. 17.

In a 5-0 vote, the board approved the 12-month lease and special exception for Great Harvest Bread Co. to occupy the vacant store of 3717 West Chester Pike in Newtown Square, formerly a shoe shop, as a restaurant and cafe.

Debbie and Darren Henderson, owners of Wayne's Great Harvest Co., believe Newtown Square would be a great fit for their second shop.

"We would love to open what we would call a satellite location here in Newtown Square," said Debbie. "We think this site is terrific. We really feel that the Newtown Square community complements whole grains, fresh breads, etc., and many of our customers have frequently mentioned to us that they wished we had a location in Newtown Square. So we really think it's a perfect fit that complements the community and a product that we provide."

According to Debbie, no baking will take place on the premise and will be transported from their Wayne location to the Newtown Square site.

"We would not be baking or using products on premises," said Debbie. "But we will sell great, fresh bread, fresh sweets and we will also provide a lighter lunch fare as we do in our Wayne location."

Included on the menu will be salads and hot-pressed sandwiches as well as regular, freshly made sandwiches which will be made on site at the Newtown Square location. According to Debbie, baked goods such as breads, cookies and scones will be transported from their Wayne location.

The new bakery will likely have four tables and eight seats available for those dining in, and two parking spaces out in front of the shop and six behind the shop.

The bakery's operating hours are expected to be from Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and closed on Sundays.

Although a 12-month lease has been signed, the Hendersons mentioned they hope to extend that to a longer lease. An opening date for the bakery has not been scheduled as of now.
