What's Closed on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day?

See what'll be closed for business on this federal holiday.

In remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his dream, the third Monday of every January -- around Dr. King's Jan. 5 birthday -- is a federal holiday. That said, several institutions will be closed.

See what'll be closed on Jan. 21.

  • Government offices -- Both the Marple and Newtown post offices will be closed.
  • Banks -- Many banks are closed on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, with the exception of TD Bank.
  • Schools -- All area schools will be closed.
  • Liquor stores -- All liquor stores in Pennsylvania will be closed on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
  • Trash/recycling pickup -- If you're a Marple resident whose trash pickup is on Mondays and Thursdays, your trash will only be picked up on Thursdays this week.
  • Post offices -- Both the Marple and Newtown post offices will be closed.
  • Transportation -- SEPTA's Regional Rail will not be affected. All PennDOT Service Centers will be closed on the holiday.
