Where to Buy Fireworks in the Marple Newtown Area

There are two places in the area that are selling legal fireworks, both are right across from each other on West Chester Pike in Newtown Square.

An Independence Day wouldn't be the same without some type of fireworks display lighting the night sky to cap off your Fourth of July celebration. This American tradition has grown to a multi-million dollar industry. In 2007, the value of U.S. manufacturers' shipments of fireworks and pyrotechnics was $231.8 million, according to the U.S. Census Bureau

But if you don't feel like trekking it out to Philly and dealing with the crowds and traffic to watch the annual display of fireworks over the Schuylkill River and Philadelphia Art Museum, you can have your own low-key, legal fireworks display in your own backyard.

This year, there are two companies selling legal fireworks in the area–Nitro Fireworks and Keystone Fireworks. Both companies have set up wholesale tents this week, both on West Chester Pike/Route 3 and both in Newtown Square.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, items defined as “ground and hand-held sparkling devices," “novelties” and “toy caps” are legal to use and sell in the state of Pennsylvania. However, other fireworks items outside these categories may be prohibited and illegal. Consumer and display fireworks are prohibited without permit, which you must receive from your municipality. Check with the township or local police if you're unsure.

Here are some safety tips in using fireworks from State Police:

  • Always read and follow the instructions carefully.
  • Use items outside in an open area.
  • A responsible adult should supervise all activities.
  • Only light one item at a time.
  • Place used items in a bucket of water prior to properly disposing of them.
