Yuki Sushi Fires Employee, Donates to Delco SPCA

The Newtown Square restaurant has taken action against an employee following the abuse of a kitten.

The general manager of a Newtown Square restaurant has taken action against an employee who abused a kitten behind the establishment.

Hyungsuk Son, 25, of Glen Mills was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals and disorderly conduct, according to Newtown Township Police, after he struck a kitten with a broomstick handle behind Yuki Sushi Restaurant, where he was employed.

The kitten survived the attack and has been adopted.

Jon Kang, the general manager of Yuki Sushi at 212 South Newtown Street Road, apologized to the community for the incident and said it was in no way a reflection of their views.

"We do not condone cruelty to animals and we are extremely upset by this incident," Kang said in an email message.

Kang thanked the community for expressing their concerns and said the management team has terminated Son and will make a donation to the Delaware County SPCA.

"We have been serving Newtown Square since 2011 and we hope to continue the relationships we have created with the community. We look forward to putting this behind us as we move forward to continue serving this great community," Kang said.

Son was charged with a misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals and a summary charge of disorderly conduct, according to police. He is scheduled to appear before Judge Leon Hunter in a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. on Oct. 3.
