Food Tips For Hurricane Irene
Some food options to stock up on today before the storm hits.
Currently, I am at work and thinking about what I am going to buy when I get home this evening to prepare for the hurricane.
Stay away from high-sodium items, things that are non-perishable most likely contain sodium-based preservatives.
Here is a list of items to have as backup in case you cannot get out before the storm:

Bottled water
Juice boxes

Tuna fish/canned chicken (make sure you have a manual can opener)
Whole wheat bread
Mayonnaise–if not refrigerated, it can keep (the eggs are pasteurized in commercial mayo)
Olive oil
Saltines
Granola bars or plain granola
Energy bars–protein bars are found on the drugstore section of your supermarket
Peanut butter/jelly
Powdered milk
Pudding cups
Apples/oranges/green bananas
Oatmeal
Dried fruit
Dry cereal
Nuts–almonds or walnuts
Canned vegetables/fruit in water
