Delaware County Library System Announces Free eBooks for Kindle

Borrow library books for your Kindle or other e-reader.

Most of the Delaware County Library System’s eBook collection is now compatible with the Amazon® Kindle. This is part of the platform enhancements to streamline user experience and help meet the increased demand for eBooks.

"This is an exciting day for libraries, our members have been asking for Kindle compatibility since the downloadable ebook program was started a year ago," said David Belanger, director of the Delaware County Library System. "Overnight our potential number of users has nearly doubled."

The process for borrowing a DCLS eBook for Kindle is similar to borrowing on other devices. Most eBooks already in the library's catalog are compatible with Kindle.  To download the Kindle books, visit www.delcolibraries.org and click the download icon. This will bring you to the main page of the virtual library, simply browse or search for "Kindle Book." Check out a title with a valid library card, and then click "Get for Kindle." Access to the Kindle Book will occur at Amazon's website after signing in and selecting delivery to the user's Kindle device or any of the free Kindle reading apps.

As with all ebooks and other digital content in the DCLS download library, titles are available 24/7 and incur no late fees because they automatically expire at the end of the lending period.  For more details on Kindle compatibility, visit the DCLS web page www.delcolibraries.org

Kindle compatibility with library ebooks also takes full advantage of Amazon’s Whispersync technology.  If you check out the ebook again at a later date, all of your notes, bookmarks and highlights will be preserved.  The last page read will also be synced between your Kindle and free Kindle reading apps.

In addition to Kindle, the DCLS download library provides support for all major desktop and mobile devices, including Windows®, Mac®, iPod®, iPhone®, iPad®, Sony® Reader, NOOK™, Android™, BlackBerry® and Windows® Phone.  Downloadable audiobooks are also available.
