Historic Newtown Square Day this Saturday, June 1st.

Celebrate the history of one of William Penn's planned "New Towns" and tour a variety of public and private historic homes and buildings. Activities for kids of all ages.

REMINDER

The 18th annual Historic Newtown Square Day will be held this Saturday, June 1st.  Activities at the Tavern and other historic public buildings begin at Noon.  Private tours of two private homes will be open for guided tours (with tickets) from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The father of American painting, Benjamin West, will be holding forth at the Square Tavern from Noon to 4:00 p.m.

A variety of activities will be going on in the Town Green behind the Tavern - like sheep shearing!  If you have kids, they will be amazed to see where their clothing actually comes from.  And the rest of us can always use some reminding about our relationship with the natural world.

38 Harrison Drive, Newtown Square

Early 18th century home - birthplace of Elizabeth Iddings, mother of "Mad" Anthony Wayne

Roberts Harrison House
3401 Saint David’s Rd, Newtown Square
Park at Paper Mill House Lot

Also early 18th century; "The walls are extremely thick fieldstone with a date stone of 1776. Two outstanding features of the house are two finely carved mantles dating to the 1700’s which are reported to have been taken from the William Penn Inn that had been on West Chester Pike."

TICKETS AND PROGRAM BOOKS

Tickets for the day’s activities are $6.  They will be sold at most locations. Children are free.  Program books contain a map and background information on each site.

The money that is raised supports the whole year of history and preservation activities of the Society– monthly public programs, school tours, Harvest Festival, Wassail Party, Paper Mill House museum, Saturday summer openings at Square Tavern and Paper Mill House, annual Madaleen Ellis scholarship, website, newsletters, and more.
